Tattoo policy change

I was reading the new body modification updates the commandant imposed. It states that a midshipman or midshipman candidate can get a tattoo that is not visible in shorts and a t shirt as long as they get it approved by their commanding officer before hand. I am appointed to the class of 2018, and who would my commanding officer be? Also, does this void the form I signed earlier about not receiving any body modifications until I graduated since there is this new policy? Thanks.
 
As soon as you report for Plebe Summer, be sure and ask for a Sea Lawyer regarding this (and perhaps your career). Your Cadre will be delighted to help.

I would not assume that any form you have previously signed has been voided unless you get something official in writing that explicitly says so.

Also, our chain of command is in our "Class of 18 Important Info" book that came with the PTR packet. We have to memorize that. :smile:
 
My advice is DO NOT GET A TATOO before you report or while at the academy. Having served over 20 years as an officer in the navy I have observed that generally officers don't get tatoos. I'm not saying all officers don't have tatoos, but it's very rare when one does and usually there is a long story that goes along with the tatoo.
 
Just my two cents, but getting a tattoo is not worth the hassle in the military. Don't trouble yourself with that when you will have other things to worry about.

I've met some of the younger Team members who have tats. That being said, would you want any identifying characteristics on your person if captured?
 
It is always amazing to me how 17 year olds can go through their entire lives (short as they have been to this point) and the entire appointment/xROTC/DoDMERB process without getting a tattoo, but now that they are only weeks away from reporting to X SA they have a need for one. In order to avoid regret....wait until you graduate from your service academy and then add 40 years before choosing to get a tattoo. JMPO...
