How does the JROTC nomination process work? I need full details like deadlines and how competitive it is to get one. Thanks.

Have you researched the ROTCNomination websites, any links to JROTC or how it gets one a Scholarship if Accepted to their College of choice, what majors they are looking at as the most competitive, when they want the App's in by, etc.? Look at that info first, ask some specific questions here, the experienced adults won't mind helping if you do a little work, not just a blanket 'tell me all I need to know' type thing. Assume everything is Very Competitive. Individual Colleges that have Units have websites on the College Websites which are also very helpful. Happy hunting.

I cannot speak to how competitive it is to receive a JROTC nomination, but I can tell you that if that is your only nomination, it is a very narrow "door" with which to enter a service academy.

From the Academy Admissions website:

Members of college and high school honor Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC and AFJROTC) units may also apply in this category. Five students from each detachment may be nominated to compete for the authorized vacancies. Students should apply for a nomination to their professor of aerospace studies or aerospace science instructor who will recommend nominees to the head of the institution.

In order to get a JROTC nomination your school must be an honor detachment. Not many slots (20 for both college and high school ROTC detachments) are available nationwide, so these are very competitive. It is, however, another nomination source. You need to apply to ALL sources for which you qualify.

Thanks to all who replied.
