My son is scheduled to go to Fort Drum for Mountain Athlete training this summer. Does anyone know about this one? Specifically, he is having trouble finding a packing list and/or check in/out information. His COC told him to look on the internet but we've both been hunting and can't seem to find anything but press releases and info for Mountain Warrior. I know that information will filter down eventually but I am getting nervous about making travel arrangements (the plane tickets prices seem to be going up daily at this point)

Are you sure you even need to make travel arrangements for him? Don't know about AROTC, but NROTC arranges all summer training travel arrangements. Of course Army might be different.

The training is right after finals. They might take care of getting him there from school but I think I still have to get him home for the rest of the summer.

Is this a summer training slot given like Airborne, and such, if it is, the Army should be paying for everything including travel to and from. If this is something like an EC that your son signed up for on his own then I'm not sure how it works.

That's why I am confused. From what I read (son forwarded me the emails he received), the battalion tried to get all of the contracted cadets signed up for something for the summer. The list that they sent listed each cadet and what they would attend: Airborne, Mountain Warrior, Mountain Athlete, etc. Mountain Athlete is a very short (5 day) training that several cadets were selected for that had other longer summer commitments, mostly Project Go and CULP. The cadets expressed interest in them but didn't sign up for them on their own.

I am not really worried about who pays to get him there; it's a short bus ride. I am trying to plan things like dates for his plane ticket home and how to get all of his summer stuff shipped if he needs to use his luggage for all of his Army stuff. (the logistics ) For Mountain Warrior, the packing list and agenda were online but we are coming up dry for Mountain Athlete.

I was just hoping that someone who had already been to M.A. might be here and point us in the right direction.

If all else fails, your son should call Mr. Darryl Harris @ 315-772-3334. He is the Troop Schools Quota Mgr at Ft. Drum and the poc for MAWC. He should be able to point you in the right direction.
