Is there a microwave available for cadets to use?

Also, are cadets allowed to take beverages to class? For instance, either a water bottle or a stainless coffee travel mug?

Thanks! Nicole

Each company dayroom (sort of like a lounge) has a microwave that is available for all cadets to use. You can bring drinks of any kind in most classrooms, some of the more technical classrooms will only let you bring water. Food is usually allowed in classes as long as its not too disruptive (i.e. you're not bringing a full meal to class). The cadet bookstore is very popular during class changes for drinks and snacks.

Forgot to ask... does all of this apply to swabs as well, or is it considered a privilege to earn?

Outside of the barracks in the classrooms, there's not really any "privileges" to earn.

So yeah, you're good for food and drinks in classrooms AT THE TEACHERS DISCRETION.

Well, you won't be drinking anything caffeinated, to include coffee, during swab summer as it is prohibited. As for water, I don't recommend not having your canteen on you at any point, hydration is considered highly important and it is not looked favorably upon by the cadre if you don't have it.

That being said, you are normally allowed to bring food to some of the academic sessions you'll have over the summer. Its a great time to share with your friends as well who may not have received mail.

Classrooms are the domain of the instructors.... some will allow you to eat, some won't. Don't expect to chow down, but snacks are often OKed.

While Chase Hall is where MOST privledges reside, there are areas that only certain cadets can be. The bildges (underground walkways between Chase Hall and Hamilton Hall and Satterlee Hall) are for 1/c cadets. The breezeways (above ground version of the bildges) are for officers (and maybe cadets of official business related to their watch... I can't remember).

There maybe other little things here and there, like which entrance to use, but I'm sure those little things can change over the years. In general 4/c cadets use the main entrainces and march (bus) to classes or events.

Each company has a "day room" which is basically a lounge. Day rooms are fairly relaxed, but it's not a separate experience from Chase. Often upperclass dictate how the dayrooms are used. But no fear, one day you'll be that 1/c cadet.

What you'll find, I think, is your company becomes a little family. You won't like everyone, and some you'll even really dislike, but it's your company and you have a bit of a bond. I was a Bravo Bull. People didn't like how "hard" Bravo Company was, but you knew what you'd get (and 4/c knew where to avoid).

Thread drift, but related. 2017 has full carry on. DS is now Bravo.

Not even soda? Just wondering...

Not even soda. You're not going to have many options during swab summer to choose what you want to drink. They'll be orange juice, milk, and water at breakfast and then milk, water, and bug juice (aka intense gatorade) at lunch and dinner. The first time you will be able to have soda or coffee will be on Eagle for that one week and then after that not until swab summer ends. Its for your own good as they want you to stay as hydrated as possible. Plus you are engaged in a high level of physical activity and the last thing you want to do is down a glass of coke and then do some type of abs exercise or running. :thumb:

Water down the bug juice…. it will make things change colors if you're not careful.

wow it sounds like you have a lot of use and experience... we should expect no less -- with your great sage wisdom ...

Don't you have something better to do than hijack a thread in order to antagonize a specific forum member? LITS has certainly been far more active than you have in the past couple of years so I'm sorry if i take his advice over your jabs.

Nonsense! I certainly appreciate the contributions of a graduate from 32 years ago whose son went to another school as much as I'm sure he appreciates my contributions. I just can't wait until I start hearing about all of the modernization efforts to the Albatross airframe....
