Yes, my son is going to NMMI next year as a sponsored prep and he also is a football recruit. We are from NY.

NMMI Report Date

Here is an extract of an email I sent to the various academies yesterday. Hope this helps. Also, we have not received the official sponsored prep list yet from the MMA according to our Admissons Officer:

"Please pass to any NMMI candidates affiliated with your organization: We will matriculate all sponsored preps (USAFA, USMA, USNA, USMMA) on 31 JULY 2014 at 0800.

We will be accommodating arrivals for the preceding 48 hours. Those that come during that 48-hour window will be fed and housed. Those that arrive prior will be asked to provide their own food/lodging at their own expense until 29 JULY.

All sponsored preps will be given an intensive math refresher course from 1-6 AUGUST. This is our third year to offer this program and past results were very positive. This additional housing, food, and training is provided to preps/parents free of charge.

Very Respectfully – Don Hanak"

I need to add to the above that our NORMAL college matriculation date is 6 AUG. Sponsored Preps come in early! You may get some paperwork from NMMI that gives the 6 AUG date. Again, this is for normal college students including Self Preps. Only SPONSORED Preps come in early. I have to hire teachers for this math training program and my budget will only accomodate sponsored preps.

thank you

Maj Hanak: Thanks for popping in with great info. It's always refreshing to see you 'chime' in with words of wisdom like many others have here. We are excited about the opportunities for our DS at NMMI. Did I read correctly that you will be retiring so therefore we may not meet you upon arrival?

Yes, I will be gone in about a month. My replacement is currently active-duty Army, will retire and come in to take over. He is a LTC, combat infantry officer, and a WP grad. He is also the PMS for the AROTC Dept. here and very familier with NMMI.

Don, congratulations on your second retirement! Crazy that you and I reconnected 40 years after we in the same squadron at Keesler and only because my son was a Falcon at NMMI. We really appreciated everything you did for us and I know that your replacement has big shoes to fill. Staying in Roswell? Regards.

Thanks Chief! Small world it is. i'm going back to Johnstown PA (Cambria Co.) I already have have the blessing of the USMMA Admissions
Office to work for them as a Field Rep. in that area.

Send me a PM on how DS is doing at the "Zoo".

DS also going

My son just got his letter this week too, we are super excited. We are from CA. I read in another (older) post that USMMA sponsored students don't need to worry about airfare because the Academy pays for it. Does anyone know if that is still the case?

USMMA does pay for the flight there and the return flight at the end of the school year. We too are from Ca. and our son attended NMMI this past year as a sponsored prep. This is a fantastic opportunity to prepare him for KP.

Thanks for your response. We are trying to plan ahead for when he has to matriculate and it is good to know that will be one less expense. Does USMMA make the flight arrangements or is it a reimbursement type of deal?

Please read the info Kings Point sends you. In the past you had the choice to of government transportation (air) or reimbursement (air or POV). For the second option you only get repaid at the Govt. rate. For example, if it costs the USMMA $500 for a plane ticket, and you pay $600; you get back $500. Make sense?

Thanks, and it makes total sense (I work for the government too). I am really glad that USMMA still sponsors their flight to get there. We are trying to plan ahead for the expenses, since we have the big one before matriculation and it will be an expensive trip. Thanks again for the info!

Haven't received anything from KP thus far...I know it's coming so thanks for this info.

For those who are reapplying for a nomination - are you using all your old rec letters or maybe establishing relationships while at NMMI would be better (to ask for rec letters). I've forgotten the nomination deadline (Dec 1st?). School year is coming to a close and we have to make some decisions before the teachers head out.

confused

Now I am confused... reapply for nomination? I thought they didn't need to reapply for a nomination if they were sponsored cadets.
