Interesting article,

It would have been news worthy if Congressman Harris nominated his own daughter, but he didn't.

Chris Meekins, Harris’ deputy chief of staff for policy, would say only that she was not among the 10 candidates Rep. Harris nominated for admission to the Naval Academy.

If Congressman's Harris' daughter really wanted to attend Naval Academy, being a daughter of Congressman could have hurt her because she didn't get a nomination from her Congressional district. We don't know for sure if she decide not to apply to her father to avoid the perception of nepotism, her father told her to not apply, or she applied but wasn't nominated.

I'm all for transparency, but I'm also highly in favor of protecting individual's privacy.

This is just another example of why there shouldn't be Congressional nominations. There is no "plus" to this equation. It was a power grab, now it's useless.

When I saw the article yesterday all I could think of was "who cares?"

Some people just want to make a fight for no reason and this is one. If the nomination wants to release names then so be it. If they don't then okay too.

I guess the question isn't "who cares" about what the MOC wants....

I'm more concerned about the 16 year old kid (who will be 17), who gets 4 nominations to 4 schools, turns down 3, and now his whole community knows.... who he is, and what he got. Why should that 16 year old minor have his name out there?

"LITS, he should be proud."

Cool.... but maybe he and his parents aren't huge fans of being public, and until they're receiving tax payer dollars and taking an oath, they owe NOTHING to that public or folks who want "the info."

I'd imagine the ten nominees for each academy would like to know who their competition is, especially if there was a principal nominee. Waiting in the dark is difficult.

Not announcing the nominees prevents comparisons of credentials, especially by those NOT nominated. Perhaps that is one reason to keep the list in darkness.

I would love to know who gets hired on USA Jobs ahead of me.... doesn't mean I should know.

At the same time, if I'm hiring, I don't want 10 other people judging me and putting a target on my back (unless, of course, we're also releasing the names of all of the losers..... are you OK with that?)

How many people on this very site think they're big fish.... only to be rejected. It's comforting to think it's all political (and maybe for USMA, USNA, USAFA and USMMA.... with their nomination process it is).... but how crushing is it to find out you just don't measure up to the "best of the best." (NEWS FLASH: They aren't the best of the best....)

"My kid SHOULD have a nomination!"

"Nope, no only should your kid NOT have a nomination, he wasn't even in the middle of the pack. Oh and because you want to know the KIDS who did receive the nominations, we're also going to release the names of the KIDS who DIDN'T receive nominations."

Maybe mid-post I've changed my mind. I want to know it ALL. So I want MOC to produce spredsheets of everyone who applied for a nomination, and I want it clearly indicated who DID receive nominations and who didn't. And I also want to know their test scores and grades, regardless if it's protected information. Heck, throw in their social security numbers and their parents' bank account numbers and PINs.... we need FULL transparency here. I want to see if money has been passing hands. I want to know about investments, medical history and family history. I want photos and names and nicknames and birthdates! GIVE ME GIVE ME GIVE ME!
