What would happen in a CC showed up on Rday sporting a sleeve tattoo? Sent home? What if CC is a RA?

Tats

If USMA did not know about and accept the tattoo, I would hope the CC would be sent home . If RA, then back to the force or ETS depending on how much time left on enlistment contract. I am vehemently opposed to ANY tattoos. If I have two candidates, for a position, and one has tattoos and their skills are comparable - it will be the tie breaker. Not so much opposed to body art as much as the decision making process to get a life long mark on your body that you will soon regret.

Well....

I am at the same conclusion as you Stevewar2

But then I'm not a decision maker and my opinion is a "high zero"

RA - Recruited athlete or Regular Army?

Either way - the real question is - did they have it when they filled out the Tattoo Questionnaire and document it on the picture?

If they got it after they filled the Questionnaire out (now knowing that it is against Army Regs) or answered falsely, then there probably won't a good outcome on R-Day.

RA=recruited athlete, sorry.
Came in the back door...am just curious.

I mentioned RA because a traditional CC has done DoDMERB early...(they open files in the summer, etc..) where an RA might just get a call from a coach w/ an offer then they start hoop jumping...so it's sometimes last minute. It's different. Everyone is equal, but some are more equal than others.

Stevewar2 was using it as regular army...current tattoos are grandfathered in; however, enlisted are no longer allowed to commission or go warrant if they have tattoos that would disqualify them from initial entry. Highly recommend against any tattoo at this point for anyone considering West Point, especially with those unfamiliar with the regulation and how it is actually enforced.

Just so I understand, if you have two equal candidates, one has a tattoo that meets all current regulations, you would base your decision to eliminate this candidate solely on the tattoo?

Current enlisted that are grandfathered can pursue a commission source as long as they were accepted or in the process prior to the start of the new regulation.

I agree with not getting a tattoo prior to attending any commissioning source, and then only once you have a good understanding of the regulations.

But if a CC shows up w/ a sleeve, would they be allowed to in process or is it a DQ on Rday?

If it's against the regulation, West Point will get you soon or later. Unless things have changed eventually CC will change to a short sleeve on the R-day. If not discovered during initial medical screening (I don't remember getting one, but my understanding is that new cadets get an initial medical screening now days), a cadre or TAC NCO/officer will eventually see the tattoo. Even if the first cadre that sees the tattoo ignores it, someone else will eventually make an issue of it, if it's against the regulation. I don't think you didn't catch it on the first day, so can't get me now will work.

This conversation got me wondering, although a little off topic, as to what effect the new tattoo regulation will have on athletic recruitment at USMA. The last High School Basketball game I attended this year, I would say that a majority of the players had tattoos that would now be against regulation. I have to say it was a surprise to me the number of tattoos, though I guess when these kids see the amount of ink in the NBA and even college they want to look the part so to speak. I would imagine there will be a lot of talent in both basketball and football that will lose the opportunity to play for the USMA due to tattoos. Choices do have consequences, I would hope exceptions won't be made.

Yep

Yep. I make/made decisions every day for a variety of reasons. I didn't like the attitude, I liked someone's haircut. etc If all else equal, seems good enough reason. It's not the body art. It's the thought process. I question someone's maturity and decision making ability if they get visible tattoos and know they want to be a professional in the real world. If I could, I would ban all tats and force tat removal to stay in. I'm not adamant about many things, but tats burn my boat. lol

My oldest has a sleeve full of science related tattoos. He has condemned himself to a life of long sleeved shirts, as he's in a professional occupation that doesn't flaunt tattoos. Life is full of choices--I think he realizes now that he could enjoy science w/out the permanent art work...but he does love them.

Now that's one I'd like to see. Sounds original.

My son has one on the back of his shoulder, was his own design which he says he likes because he gets to change the meaning of it when ever anyone asks. Can't see it when he has a t-shirt on.
