I-Day Shot Records - Originals or Copies?

The portal mentions that we need to bring our shot records to Inprocessing, but it doesn't mention whether they'd prefer us to bring the originals or a copy. I'd prefer to bring a copy and keep the originals safe in my home until a later date.

Which should we bring?

I just got a copy from the doctor's office - signed & dated.

Just a copy is fine. If you don't bring one at all, you get all the shots. Bring a copy, and you get the ones you haven't had.

That's not true. They never even asked me for mine and I didn't get anything-definitely bring a copy as a precaution but take some time and seriously make sure you send in all that paperwork accurately and on time before I-Day.

There have been major changes made (starting with the class of 2018). The entire appointee kit is now online, including immunizations. And, unlike past years, appointees must be 100% current with all immunizations prior to coming to USAFA. This practice brings USAFA inline with every other public institution in the US. There will be no more immunizations given during in-processing.

You might not have gone through in-processing correctly. . .

maybe you sent your shot records in early and were streamlined.

All shots excluding flu shots (which aren't available right now) Gardasil (sp?) is also optional.

Ya, if you recall, we were supposed to send all those records in ahead of time. I have some degree of faith that I was inprocessed correctly to the academy.

It's good to hear that USAFA is refining the medical portion of I-Day.

If you think about it, over 1000 people got the necessary shots, given haircuts or timed in getting their hair up, were issued clothes, instructed on how to store things, feed twice, and assigned rooms all in 1 day. Pretty impressive.

I'm just quoting from a fellow classmate in my squad. He didn't send in shot records and didn't bring any with him on I-day. They gave him "every immunization." It's just funny to him, because he's not afraid of needles or anything but he passed out cold when he got a bunch of shots.

The logistics that go into all of it is very impressive, at least to me.

It's interesting to hear that they aren't giving any immunizations on I-day now. How very curious... What happens if someone shows up without all their immunizations?

They can't. All appointees have to enter their immunization records online. If they aren't done by 15 June, their travel orders will be revoked. The appointees are all well aware of the requirements and deadlines, so no one will be surprised or caught off-guard.

Some shots are given as a series. For instance, you have to have at least the first Hep A and Hep B (or the combo shot) in the series. If you don't have a complete series, those will be given over a few months at the Academy. But the first shots MUST be done.

Insider, My DD will be getting the Hep A and Hep B this coming weekend, the 24th. I understand one of them has a booster due 4 weeks out which will be the weekend before I-day. Should she get that booster and then just bring her record or should she wait and let the Academy take care of it?

She only needs the first in the series. USAFA will administer the remaining shots later (after BCT).

Please note that she can get the first Twinrix shot instead of Hep A and Hep B (it is a combined Hep A/B vaccine).

Thanks Insider!

Unfortunately the Twinnix is not available at the clinic.
