Question about ROTC OML GPA Accession

Hello :cool: my name is Kevin and i am currently a college sophomore who is in pursuit of becoming an Active Duty commissioned army officer. My problem is that i have relatively low GPA (mid-upper 2's) in the current University that i am enrolled in with degree in Mechanical Engineering. I know there is no excuse about my low GPA and there is only myself to blame, but i'm set in my mind to transferring to another university which will not only transfer the credits have in prior institution, but start fresh on my GPA. And while in that institution, i hope to participate in their ROTC program. Also i am an active National Guard member in my respective state. So long story short, here is my question:
How is the GPA calculated for OML Accession for transfer students? I am seeing different answers from forum to college ROTC adviser that only the GPA's from the new institution counts or only the first 6 semesters count.

Will those credits be used toward your degree at the new university? Or are you starting fresh as a freshman? I would think it would depend on that. No one says you have to transfer any credits unless they are used toward your degree. In other words, if you are beginning the new university from point one, then no. If you are using some credits from old university, those grades will be factored into your gpa. Your call.

I'm not a college counselor, so if this is not accurate anymore, please correct me.

Engineering degree + 2.75 GPA + ADSO for EN branch = AD EN 2LT.*


*theoretically
 
I've heard that was the new policy for the FY14 but it is rather first come first serve and it is only the case if they do not have enough AD officers commissioning into EN. I will be definitely doing ADSO but i really want a path that is very well guaranteed rather than a jeopardy. I wish SMC was an option for me :/
 
hmm i guess that could be the case as well. I am classified as a sophomore but that is because i have finished much of pain in the ass class (dynamics, thermodynamics etc.) rather than general ed classes. taking those again will bring hell back to life again.. i guess maybe i can try with the grad school route?
 
Engineer branch sets aside a certain amount of slots for engineering majors.
 
I would be surprised if you could shed your cumulative GPA like a snake wriggles out of old skin.

Does anyone know whether kevinesam could re-take courses in summer school and replace the mediocre original grades?
 
Usually depends on school policy. I know my son's school has something called "academic fresh start", but 4 years has to have elapsed between your attempts.
Otherwise, all the classes you take follow you when transferring and are used to calculate your GPA for ROTC. Usually, if your university allows you to retake a class and replace a prior lower grade on your transcript, then that is the grade that ROTC would use as well.

It doesn't sound like OP is interested in retaking classes. If not, he may need to keep his fingers crossed that the Eng Branch is still participating in the 2.75 + ADSO program when he assesses.
 
If they indeed implement the GRE in the next couple years his GPA may not be as large of an issue.

Is there a time frame for when the GRE might be part of the equation? By "next couple of years," is there something showing GRE as a factor by, say, 2016? or 2015?

Just the normal military rumors, which everyone knows are soooo reliable.

I'm sure there won't be any change including a GRE for the class of 2015, beyond that is anyone's guess.
 
The GRE is not a difficult test and a poor indicator of aptitude, I really hope they don't implement it.

OP don't quit on engineering, I know the obsession of getting AD/guaranteed job is common with cadets/pre-cadets here but good things come to those who put in work.

As someone said, sloughing old GPA like it's old snake skin is unlikely as I know med/PA schools look at EVERYTHING.
