My DS was offered and accepted an appointment on 5/7. Question, what civilian clothing if any, should he pack when he goes to Indoc? Will there be any opportunity that he can leave to go out to dinner during Acceptance Day and Parent's day? Will he be allowed to wear civilian clothing during his first year? I appreciate any information!

Join the fb page. Lots of information there.

He will have the civilian clothes that he had on the first day of indoc. He won't be allowed to wear anything but his uniform within 50 miles of the USMMA until the class is recognized in March/April

Almost everything I needed for the first year was issued to me upon arrival. All I brought with me to indoc (other than the clothes on my back) were socks, underwear, white t-shirts and blue PT shorts. My parents brought me a couple more sets of civvies on parents weekend but your opportunities for wear or so limited I went basically the first year with only about 4 pairs of civilian pants and shirts.

My advice to any incoming student would be similar to the advice given to me by an upperclassmen prior to my first sea year ... lay out everything you think you need to take and then put half of it back.

It is all in the Logging In instructions

...no longer a need to bring PT shorts.
Just socks, undershirts, undershorts, towles, toilitries, and the running shoes that Plebe Candidate should be wearing in. More sport related clothes/equipment if they are playing a sport/waterfront. Good Luck and Welcome Aboard.

A number of parents have suggested compression shorts to wear under the PT gear.

Applications
You should request an application and must complete it no later than the March 1 application deadline.

Full application instructions are here:

Okay so I get it - you're too lazy to read and you have no concept that the process basically takes a year and do not understand that as with all Federal Academies before you can register you must be accepted and the application deadline for the entering Class of 2018 was basically 3 months ago. So as far as having any chance of being in the Class of 2018, no that's not possible.

Further if I misunderstand and you are interested in the Class of 2019, if you want to succeed against the competition you'll have entering USMMA or any of the other Federal Academies, you need to basically take the initiative and go through the full process and then if you have specific questions ask them and people will be inclined to provide helpful answers.

General questions such as these are really not "actionable" in order to provide you helpful answers and lead many on forums such as this, myself included, to think you really are probably not a serious prospective applicant. I'm not saying you aren't real - not at all. Its just that every year, too late in the current cycle, someone will realize they might have wanted to explore the idea/opportunity of applying and possibly attending any one of the Service Academies - including USMMA.

The truth of the matter is that the right time to start asking these sorts of questions is no later than the middle of your Junior Year in High School. There's a bunch of things you need to do to make sure you have a complete application package. Not the least of those things is nomination from a Member of Congress and often that is a competitive process that includes interviews in the Fall (at the start of your Senior Year) after you have sent them a full package that often includes your standardized (SAT or ACT scores, an application which may include an essay, etc.) That is in addition to completing the actual application package to the Academy (obtained via the website I posted). Also required are you Physical Fitness test and DOD Medical. All of those things are usually on file for most applicants no Later than late January or Early February of your Senior Year of High School.

As such if March 2nd rolls around and you don't have a complete package with all four of those things on file and available for the Admissions office of the Academy to evaluate and consider offering you an appointment, it's "probably" not going to happen to say the least.

If you're still interested in applying for the Class of 2019 then after you read and understand what's on the admissions web page feel free to PM me with any specific questions.

thanks a lot... I will come back to you... please, can you send me your facebook I'D?

please I dnt see any. my Facebook ID is Christopher maduabuchi. still asking, are a student of usmma?

This guy can't really be serious, right? I'm not trying to be rude but I would expect that someone who was interested in applying to a Service Academy would be shrewd enough to not just publish personal information on a public forum. Also, that he would be intelligent enough to use Google or *gasp* get in touch with Admissions if interested enough.

Also, jasper is asking you to private message him on this forum, not to make contact on Facebook. Jasper and KPEngineer are both USMMA alumni, not current midshipman I believe.

That being said, you are a little behind the eight ball in terms of information but you can easily catch up. Ask specific and direct questions here, don't just make general queries. Tell us a little bit about yourself without giving too much personal information (ex. give us classes you've taken, GPA, extracurriculars, SAT/ACT scores, etc.) I believe that everyone who is interested should be encouraged to apply but not without doing a little groundwork themselves.
