Hello,
I am curious as to what community activities or leadership type accomplishments graduates or accepted candidates have done for getting accepted into West Point.
Thank you for your time.

I don't believe in doing something as a resume filler. Back in middle school, I encouraged my sons to find things that they believed in and had a passion for. One was a team captain in a sport that he loved, the other was very involved in an activity that led to state recognition. Both attended Boys' State because they had an interest in state government. Both were very involved in church activities and participated in many local and away mission trips as a way to serve God.

There's nothing worse than having a "serial joiner" be part of your club or group, only to stop attending after a few meetings, but listing it on their overstuffed resume.

Encourage your kid to discover his/her interests and passions.

This. So much this.

I did a lot of community service in high school, but it was because the program I was a part of was something I was extremely passionate about. So passionate that I stopped playing football so that I could take on a leadership position within the program.

You don't do activities "to get accepted" you do them because you enjoy them, are passionate about them, and care about the impact they have on you and your community. If you take that mindset with you as you go forward then you won't have to worry about padding your resume to get accepted as that will take care of itself.

No he wouldn't do anything he wasn't interested in to "just get accepted". He just wants to know what will make him stand out. He wanted to know what others had done to get an idea of what he will potentially be up against when it comes time for he to apply. He is also curious if he is not (grade level) eligible for a certain program, if it will hurt him joining because he didn't do it all 4 years of high school.

In the profile of the Class of 2017, you can see what activities others did: http://www.usma.edu/oir/class profiles/class of 2017.pdf
