First off, do I need a calculator over plebe summer? If so, should I use the graphing calculator I am used to or bring a simpler scientific calculator?

Computers. What type of computers are distributed to midshipmen? I was told that eventually I'll need a printer, and I want to make sure I find one thats compatible.

Phones. Take it for those three calls home or leave it home until PVW?

Not electronic stuff. Should I bring school supplies like notebooks and pens?

Bring a simpler scientific calculator for the validation tests during plebe summer because they'll issue you a really nice TI-Inspire for the academic year.

You're not going to know what computer you're going to get until Plebe Summer cause it's different every year. With that being said they also issue you a printer so don't worry about getting one. SO DO NOT BUY YOUR OWN. The mid store will always have the ink needed for the issued printers.

Bring it with the charger to plebe summer for the phone calls home.

No, they'll provide that stuff for you.

I was told bring calculator, phone with charger in ziploc for calls home and get printer at mid store PPW so you know they will have ink cartridges easy to replace.

No idea about pens/paper but sending it in care package.

Thank you. This was extremely helpful! I did not know I was issued a printer or calculator.

the printer and calculator are issued but they are not free. They will be deducted out of the plebe's budget. Last year the calculator was a $150 charge and the printer was a $100 charge.

Bring the graphing calculator. A TI-84/TI-89 would make a good backup for the issued TI-Nspire.

If you can obtain a TI-Nspire for cheap, do it. You can then return the issued calculator and get your money back after plebe summer.

Aside from the laptop and calculator, all the other tech is optional. At some point during the summer, you'll be asked to fill out a check sheet. I recommend buying the printer and the docking station, but nothing else. You will find better deals or higher quality equipment for the rest elsewhere.

If you want to buy your own printer or bring one from home, the Mid Store sells HP 564 ink cartridges.

Drop by the mid store electronics section in the back. They will have a "set up" model of what's issued for review and some nice add-ons. They had a sheet provided with specs as well. Some mids will opt for an external monitor, speakers, bluetooth mouse, etc. Watch your budget!

I forced my DS to suffer with apple products during HS. I think he misses them now
