Okay so it is that time of year again...application time. I am posting this in the hopes that insteadd of having duplicate questions 3,4, 5 times a week, lurkers and new posters will take it to heart regarding their posts. It may also help getting the correct response faster.

1. ROTC is all encompassing, please do not assume that every poster knows which branch.
~ Typically if someone is vague and says ROTC there will be a response regarding which branch. Do not ASSUME because you know you want to go AROTC we all know it too. If you just place ROTC the chances of the responses for how each branch works will be very high.

Granted you will be educated in the AROTC/NROTC/NROTC MO and AFROTC process, but if you only want AROTC you will have to read through all of that before you get to the information you want. Plus, threads tend to go off topic/divert quickly.

2. DoDMERB. DoDMERB qualifies or DQs. If there is a preexisting medical issue regarding DoDMERB than post it on DoDMERB. Most posters will tell you to post on DoDMERB when you ask medical questions.

IOWS you are wasting time posting on the ROTC forum.

3. Take time and GOOGLE the ROTC process for your branch before asking for a CHANCE ME
~ If you are an A/NROTC candidate and list your stats, but not college choices realize the 1st replies will be college choices?

~ If you are AF/NROTC STEM majors matter. The 1st response will be what is your intended major since both of them give 80-85% of all scholarships to STEM (AFROTC calls it tech, not STEM...same thing)

4. Use the search button on this site. Take the time to investigate before posting. Honestly, most questions every year are repetitive from the year before...ties in with Google before posting
~ Posters here are insanely kind and helpful, but after many years here I can tell you at certain times they become testy because it feels like OPs want a quick and easy answer, i.e spoon fed instead of doing due diligence for their life.

5. JMPO

Don't bite the messenger. Look the fact is for each branch they (branches) will give min. Stats, be it SAT/ACT or PFA, but just because you meet the mins does not mean you are competitive for a scholarship.
~ IOWS don't defend yourself, listen to others and correct the shortfalls.
~~~~ I am a poor test taker, and go to a top school, carrying a 3.8614 cgpa, top 15% rank, all honors, no APs
~~~~~~ Okey donkey, but the fact is the HSSP is national and there are a lot of you that can say the same thing, and many will not get a scholarship because they didn't have a site like this to guide and strengthen their weaknesses.

Again search the site, you will find the stats. AROTC may require only a 19 ACT to be boarded, but I doubt anyone with a 19 got an AROTC scholarship. AFROTC requires a min. of 24, but the avg is 28.

6. Scholarships are a recruiting tool, it can also be seen as a loan.
~ Just like sports at any college the minority are on scholarship. The slate is wiped cleaned when they enter as freshmen. 20% at best are on scholarship.
~ In some cases the scholarship recipient can be required to pay back the scholarship. Gojira(poster) is a prime example. USe the search.

7. This is a marathon, not a sprint.
~ Just b/c you submitted your application in July does not equal an answer by Nov. You could be re-boarded until next Feb/Mar-

Good luck to everyone, and from a Mom that was an ADAF wife for 21 years, and now an ADAF O1 Mom, this roller coaster ride will last for years. The only difference is the HSSP is the kiddie roller coaster for toddlers, ROTC is the wooden rollercasters, and AD is the loops and pulling GS.

Again, 8 am not trying to offend, I am only trying to get you to your desired answer faster. If you prefer taking the chance that the thread will be filled with everyone's opinion or diverts than post away.

The above link should be mandatory reading for anyone considering ROTC. The services handle situations differently, but every year there are people who create situations that leave them in unfavorable circumstances. There are rules and standards, follow them and your should be fine. If they are trying to RIF, all bets are off.
Just because Johnny did it, and got away with it, doesn't mean it is OK to do it.
It is not my intent to rain on anyone's parade. I just want to make sure people are aware of the possible, albeit unlikely, outcomes.
Good luck to all!

I have been a lurker most of the time, this site has answered a lot of questions for my family. My daughter won a 3yr AROTC scholarship to the University of Toledo and the Battalion has made it into a 4yr just recently.

I have been in the AF myself and I know how the military loves acronyms. My suggestion for the site would be some sort of common acronyms list. I'm still trying to figure out what DS stands for? "Designated Scholarship"?

Thanks for what DS stands for! I had no clue. That is a good list for reference thank you.

Old dog, new trick. I always thought DS stood for dependent son.

lmao

This thread proves my point on how quickly it can divert.

The last 6 posts were about what DS means......hint hint want a response for you than make sure every possible question is answered before you post, otherwise it most likely will divert.

In all fairness, the original post was more a statement then a question, the question came later.

I do get what you mean though, it's sometimes fun to guess just how many posts it will take to get completely off topic.

How about them Seahawks!!
