Former USMA cadet

I am a former USMA cadet in need of his DD 214. I was discharged in 2011 and requested my DD214 through the NPRC. I just got off the phone with an NPRC representative who told me that the NPRC in Missouri does not have a copy of my DD214 and that it may be at the Army record center in Ft. Knox since I left relatively recently. Is it possible that the Academy has a copy of the DD214? I know for a fact one was issued, it was thrown away by an ex in anger, along with many other of my possessions. I may be in the wrong thread, but if anyone could point me in the right direction that would be great.

Maybe the mods can move to the correct section. Not to make light of your need, but this is the forum area for answers like:

- "The boot letter has not been published yet"
- Check your portal, it should be there
- Neverending debates on nomination fairness
- The early iterations of TCH.... "DS says this crop of new cadets were so sorry...."
- "No, you don't need to worry about that packing list from 2001 on that internet group... "
- "No, they won't punish you if your underwear has a logo inside waistband"
- "No, they are serious. Getting that tattoo would not be a good idea at this point"
- Bubble-wrap
- The inevitable "Chance me" threads
- My uncle's neighbor's dentist read an article that USMA should (Pick one: be abolished, go back to basics, add more females, drop the nomination, requirement, get out of div 1 football, recruit better football athletes, xyz)
- Does the CFA matter?
- Etc

I'm glad you were able to help the OP.

My comment was primarily to let him know that:

A) "Life after the Academy" was not this forum's focus, not a regular topic, and that most of the participants will not be able to help him.

And B) There was a forum area with broader participation that this type of issue has been addressed in the past.

From the sticky at the top of the USMA forum: "This forum is intended for applicants and their parents to ask questions concerning the United States Military Academy."

And from the "Life after the Academy sticky": "This forum is intended for applicants, cadets, parents, graduates and current and former military personnel to discuss topics pertaining to life after the academy."

Again, glad you were able to answer the question... just wanted to let the OP know that he might have faster results fishing in a different pond.

not many ponds for those quesitons.... and if you've followed along in the past bunch of years, these questions do pop up here, because there ain't much out there for folks in that predicament. My point is just these guys are already in a bad spot - so if you can help great, if not, just keep on scrolling.

"Life After" was likely the better place to post because those of us with DD-214s are more likely to look there than on the individual service academy threads.

If the Army is anything like the Coast Guard, it does not make it easy for anyone on the outside to find information about themselves. I spend weeks trying to help one woman out while I was in the Office of Public Affairs.... just trying to track down her documentation. Not my job, but honestly, I was just as clueless as her (and so were many other members who probably should have known.)

I agree, another13mom. I'm glad you could offer the OP some guidance.

After spending some time on the USMA forum, moved this thread to this forum to get more eyes on the question.

I did send him (via pm) the contact info for the person he needs to speak w/ at USMA.

Having a similar issue as the OP. Just need to get my DD214. Separated from the academy in NOV 92. Can you please forward me the contact info as well?

Thanks in advance,
John
