I just found out that I received a second nomination does this help improve my chances of being accepted to the academy? I now have a Congressional and Senatorial nomination!

Mike

not really sorry. just makes it a bit easier for USAFA to give appointments to more people, hopefully yourself included. there are countless threads about this same question so look around a bit. much more in-depth answers are on lots of other pretty recent threads

In a way it does improve your chances. You'll be in two nomination categories instead of just one so you'll be looked at competitively on both your senator's list and your congressman's.(unless your senator or congressman uses the principle nomination system)

yep, I also have 2, that just means that less nominations are given out to more people! meaning that if (e.g) 4500 noms are given out, and between us we have 2-3, that means that the people with nominations are no longer 4500 but 2250ish. (assuming the theory that everyone has at least 2 nominations.) that means that if 1400 are give appointments, our chances of getting in are better than 50-50!. But don't pay attention to this cause i just made the numbers up to make my self feel better. haha
Peace.

A qualified candidate with a nomination has about an 80% chance of an appointment.

Last year, 2099 qualified candidates were offered 1642 appointments.

yeah i knew my numbers were wrong, but that sounds even better! what does qualified mean? candidate? or something beyond that, cause right now I'm only listed as a candidate.

Triple Qualified + at least one nomination.

Allooooohaaaaaaa!

:tomcat::tomcat::tomcat:Its nice to see some of you already getting apptmts. already, Hawaii MOC's don't release any announcements until next month. By the way, I got a 'academic qualified" letter from USNA this past Dec. but nothing from AFA. I am medically q'd for USNA & AFA, does the AFA send out academic qualified letter by chance? Also, the local paper has a football recruit "verbally committing to USNA" today...its safe to say that person is NOT in the regular MOC nomination process?

I got the scholastically qualified letter from USNA, but nothing from AFA either.

:tomcat::tomcat::tomcat::tomcat:The only thing i got from AFA was a CD last week:rolleyes: which makes me wonder how long is this waiting process...I am shooting for a principal nom...from Sen Inouye, the other two just lists the noms. Good luck to all that waits patiently.:thumb:

LY this time we saw people saying they were triple q'd, and our DS asked the ALO how he would know if he was. The quick answer is if you have anything including nom and says cand., you are triple q'd. You are not a candidate just because you have a nom. Even in the AFA website it says that if you don't have certain ACT or SAT levels you will normally not be deemed competitive for an appt. From what I understand the USNA does not state that anywhere, thus the letters for academics. So if you have the low SAT (I think the cut off is 590 for Verbal or a 24 E) than check with the AFA regional admission director to see. However, if you know that you already went up to a board, you are triple q'd. You only go up to a board when the packet is complete including the nom.

Good luck

The football recruit will still be in the "regular MOC nomination process". To be appointed you have to be nominated.

Also, I think you're an equivalent of an "academic qualified" status if your status is "candidate" on the USAFA application status page. To be considered a "candidate", you must have a nomination and/or be considered academically competitve.

Athletic recruits need to seek a nomination from all sources. The athlete could have an Athletic LOA.

The Service academies do not belong to the National Letter of Intent program. All "commitments" are verbal and non-binding until I-day or R-day.

One who is said to verbally committing could also be going to NAPS - no nomination required.

:tomcat::tomcat::tomcat::tomcat: Thanks for all the info gang... Its 0610 and I gotta take off and hit the surf before school...its a little bit chilly outside though:frown:not used to this cold front here in paradise:shake:but then, I should be grateful I'm not near zero degrees:yllol:I just know I'm going to be in climate shock at AFA...Allloohaaa by the way...nice tight formation on the Tomcats:biggrin:

Pima, I'm pretty sure the cut-off for verbal is 580, cause that's what I got (unlukily my weakest) and I still became a "candidate". Plus I talked to my counselor and he says I'm competitive in all areas, and I just needed to go through the board. Do you know when the board meets? I can't stand the wait anymore.
