Are Nike or Oakley in Army regulations? I want to get an extra pair of boots before school starts, but I want to buy ones that I will actually be allowed to wear.

Read 670-1. It's very clear what's approved and what isn't.

Anyone know where this is described in AR 670-1? It is 60 pages long.

The pdf is 60 pages long. I have never dealt with rude people on this forum before but I have met the first.

Jcc was not being rude. They were giving you a kind way to say in ROTC it is a different world and relying on spoon feeding is the fastest way to end up at the bottom of the totem pole. They gave you the reg. and the link.

Jcc has been here for over 4 years. They are not rude, they have always been supportive of every poster. This is coming from a poster that has ticked off a lot of new posters.

Think of them like your CoC...they gave you the info, would you call them rude because they didn't say it was on page 122 paragraph 3( No clue where it is just an example)? I doubt it. Y

JMPO you were asking to be spoon fed. I am sure I am now the 2nd rudest person, but let me tell you dunninla, thompson, JCleppe, kinnem, etc. will probably side on JCC's and my side with the fact that come the fall ROTC is not going to hold your hand and search the info for you.

I know that cadets wear the Nike and I was going to get a pair for my son but it looks like they are not allowed. Check out this link it may be easier to read than the regulation document.

my DS AROTC who is waasaaay into 10 mile 50LB rucking 3x per wk bought bellvilles. He is friends with a neighbor who rucks (current army ranger) who told him to not buy too comfortable of a boot and get used to that first.

LOL on a side note my army son and navy(marine?) son were both in town a couple of wks ago at the same time and rucked together through town on their 10 mile rucks and got stopped every single day by the police for suspicion behavior...(suspicious rucking??)

How dare someone ask you to actually read a regulation. It's almost like they are punishing you for asking a harmless question on an anonymous forum. How dare they.

Get over yourself. Stop wasting people's time and look up the answer yourself, that's why they publish every AR, FM, etc. online. If you're looking for a career field where you will be spoon fed answers, go away.

The damn pdf's come with search bars and table of contents, it's not rocket science.

Getting an extra pair of boots and working them in now is a good idea. Why not call up your future battalion next week and see if there's a gold bar recruiter. That would be a newly commissioned second lieutenant, who is probably bored to tears and would be delighted to give you pointers on boots and other facets of ROTC.

Hey - I'm sure he/she is up to their eyeballs in BS administrative paperwork that does not need to be bothered any further. :thumb:

But seriously though - I was going to say the same. Call up the cadre and see what they say. Just a little tip for future reference, the NCO's are the one's who know the in's and out's of those very very dry rules and regulation books.

A couple names that have been thrown around that I've seen people wear: Nike, Belville, BlackHawk (that I can think of off the top of my head).

ahaase14 - we are not trying to be rude - although sometimes as Pima said, for new posters it may come off as such.

But rather, we are here to give some aspiring cadets/midshipmen a wake up call. This is a forum that brings together current cadets, some recently commissioned officers, long time officers, retired, spouses, parents, and probably a thing or two in between.

To those who have found this forum to be an extremely resourceful and helpful place have decided to stay. Others, not so much.

It's up to you to decide what to do. Also - if you think we're bad - just wait until you get to Big Army (it's not all hunky dory like in the movies). Remember, the only difference between you (as an officer) and a private in your platoon is: he's been promoted twice already.

In other words, you're going to need some tough skin. If not, then being an officer, or being in the Military in general - may not be the place for you.

Best of luck.

(Do I get brownie points or something for being mentioned in someone else's post?)

The Tactical Research (by Belleville) Khyber Mountain Hybrid boot has been an approved boot for Army Beast (found in the West Point "Boot Letter" each year) the past 3 years. So you know it's regulation. Cadets in ROTC also like it quite a lot. You will also be issued a $70, stiff and very thick vibram soled, uncomfortable boot when you are issued your uniform in ROTC. Use both boots back and forth for a few months and you will learn which is better suited to your foot.

If you haven't gone out and bought boots yet, I HIGHLY recommend Blackhawk boots.... extremely comfortable and held up great all year for me.

My DS is a new cadet at WP. Between the time he was sent the "boot letter" in the Spring and when he reported on R-Day 7/2, the list changed. He took a pair of Rocky C4T to R-Day and was told within a day or two that he couldn't wear that boot during Beast. Within a day or so after that, he was told he could wear the boot during Beast but not during the academic year. So for now he has two pairs (one pair was issued to him on R-Day) and he will have to purchase another pair when the academic year starts. Here's the memo that was referenced with pictures of the Unauthorized boots. Hope this helps!

Um, as a former platoon leader, I must respectfully disagree.

Yes, I get your point, but your comment is both inaccurate and disrespectful to those highly trained, specially selected, educated, dedicated, responsible young officers. (I also know you probably meant it as a joke and didn't intend to offend anyone. It's a good joke for an enlisted soldier to throw around, but not so for a future Army officer.)

Well my apologies if it offended you.

I had the simple intention of illustrating the point that there may be little difference between 2 soldiers (almost the same age) who just enlisted and who just commissioned (experience-wise). Nothing else.

I know Nike is on the no-go list. By bye garrison boots....

This is not intended as an endorsement of this store.

I am posting this link here because this store has made it easy to see which brands they sell that are AR 670-1 compliant.

The boots that are issued to cadets are not the best and some if not most cadets eventually buy different ones. Last year DS purchased some Reeboks and said it made all the difference in the world on long rucks. If you are thinking of buying a boot for this upcoming fall I would advise you do it soon and start breaking them in now.

Thanks Sherriff! DS could never find an official list so he went with a rec'd from his buddy who is a Ranger who he rucks with (Belleville 795 200g Insulated Waterproof Boots (Tan)--glad to know these are on the OK list. one less thing to worry about.

I haven't had any experience with that particular website - but I just wanted to say one thing. Before you purchase, make sure that list is up to date.
