The time has come to start applying for ROTC scholarships and i plan on applying to all three branches to have the highest chance of maybe getting a scholarship. I have started looking into AFROTC scholarships and i have found that usually the ones who get the scholarships have higher GPAs above 3.7ish. My UW GPA is much lower and around 3.4. But my weighted GPA is high at 6.2 (idk but thats how my district ranks it). This weighted GPA puts me at the top 10 percent of the class. And i also recently took the ACT and scored a 33. But is there a chance of getting a scholarship with this low UW GPA?

GPA UW: 3.4
GPA W: 6.2 (idk thats how my school weights it)
All IB classes (English, biology, spanish, history, math, chemistry)
6 AP classes (5 more in senior year)
SAT: 1950 (Math + Writing = 1350) didnt study for the SAT this time :(
ACT: 33 (took it in June)
Clubs : FBLA (state qualified), speech and debate, unicef, fantasy sports
NHS member
Officer in clubs: music for healing (VP), Fantasy Sports (Secretary)
Class Officer for Senior Year (Sergeant at Arms)
Sports: Cricket, Cross Country (no letters bc they are very hard to get in my school)
Volunteer: 300+ hours
Local Temple Youth Leader
Live in Florida and want to go to University of Florida
Definite major in Engineering (most likely aerospace)

How badly will my lower UW GPA weigh me down for scholarships from the three branches?

will the act score help? and is there a shot for af scholarships?

Your ACT will help, it's going to be tight for AF, they are cutting back so far that some current cadets will not make Active Duty and be forced Reserves.

Navy will be tough, it is about as hard as getting an appointment to the USNA.

NROTC Marine Corps Option would be a good shot.

Army ROTC would be a decent shot as well, they are looking harder at Engineering-STEM majors these days.

what would be optimal for an AF scholarship?

Doesn't matter. Just do your best and apply to all of them anyway. You'll need to decide between Navy Marine Option and Navy Option as you can only pick one. If you're in great shape then Marine Option could be viable. Look at the USMC PFT to get an idea of the physical test.

Your gpa is high enough, biggest thing honestly is tech degree, nearly impossible to get a scholarship with nontech. AFROTC at least. Stay involved, stay professional, you will do just fine and get one.

Not really sure it's as simple as that.

Overall your stats look strong enough for a Type 7, maybe a type 2. The thing to understand is that for AFROTC they will look at your school profile and adjust your grades accordingly. If you rank out at top 10% and 20% go Ivy, than they see that 3.4 as coming from a school that doesn't hand out As easily.

I agree with others, this is going to be a new AF and what occurred in the past is not longer a predictor of the future. Nobody knows the numbers that will be awarded this year, nor your competition. If they drop the numbers from the typical 18% down to 12% you are on the maybe line for even a type 7 as a tech.In numbers it would be @ 600 given out nationally.

The one thing I would suggest is don't do this for a scholarship. Apply because you want to serve in that branch. The AF is completely different from an AD perspective and lifestyle than any other branch, just as every branch is unique.

Also understand that the AF scholarship is really only guaranteed for two years. If not selected for SFT as a sophomore chances are you will be disenrolled and lose the last two years of the scholarship.

Good luck.

I got an AFROTC scholarship with something like a 3.1

Focus on the whole package.
