NY Time Article

An examination of the final paper required for Mr. Walsh’s master’s degree from the United States Army War College indicates the senator appropriated at least a quarter of his thesis on American Middle East policy from other authors’ works, with no attribution.

His is blaming PTSD MSN article

Walsh told The Associated Press on Wednesday that his "head was not in a place very conducive to a classroom and an academic environment."

I am extremely disapointed. The person who wrote the paper for him should be fired.

This has been a running joke among us. PTSD issues...a National Guard AG colonel. The horrors of the day the FOB ran out of chicken tenders.

If you are referreing to Senator Walsh - actually AR / IN Colonel, he commanded an Infantry battalion in Iraq (2005 or so).

First, another +1 to Norwich! It was a good laugh!

Now, I start by saying that I do not have anything like a good understanding of PTSD but it is clearly something that affects many. So I do not want this to sound unkind or abrupt, but do I understand PTSD is being blamed for one forgetting the basic rules of writing? Rules that were drilled into us since high school; but one, at the same time, remembers and follows ... say.. the rules of the road? Or how to navigate through an advanced academic program?

Easy answer. Take a Masters that does not require a Thesis.:thumb:

Resident U.S. Army War College does not require a thesis. The paper Senator Walsh plagiarized was a written course requirement to complete his thesis requirement.

If you are thinking about Phd or getting anonther maters, doing a masters with or without thesis can make a difference.

Too funny.! :yllol:

They have programs now which scans papers for plagerism. They use them at some high schools and colleges. I wonder how many politicians would be flagged if their papers were put through this app.

Us older folks should get a waiver on this. We may have plagerized but we had to use a typewriter. I used the one finger method. Each page took hours. We could not copy and paste.

What we really need is a app the lets us know when a politician lying, exaggerating, or just trimming the edges of truth. The video would, of course, evaluate his/her body language for any correspondence to the text.

The app would be easy to create...just would have to verify if the politician was speaking. :shake: (I forgot who said the original quote on that one...anyone else remember the name?)

Did the finger used depend on which teacher and subject it was for?
