Looking for information on the EAD trends for Air Force intelligence officers. I commissioned May 17th with an original EAD of October 16, but that was recently pushed to May 14, 2015. I've been hearing that these dates change all the time and I shouldn't worry about such a far out date, but I have to say, it's quite frustrating thinking that if being here for a year, I could have been looking for jobs in my field of study.

I was in the same boat this time two years ago, waiting for orders to Goodfellow. Bottom line is that you shouldn't rely on any "projected" EAD date you're given, until you have physical orders in hand. My date changed several times until some time in Sept when I got actual orders for a 1 Oct EAD. There are a lot of factors involved, and it would probably be for the best if AFPC were just honest about not knowing, instead of constantly changing dates.

It sucks to not be able to make solid plans for this waiting period, I know. But even after you're on active duty, this is the kind of thing you'll have to put up with regularly.

My DS commissioned May 10 and was recently given an EAD of 8/9 May 2015 (I can't remember the exact date). I figure they just plugged in a date near the end of the 1 year window, but agree with nick4060 that it's not a real date.

Nick4060: Is there an intel course start cycle (ie UPT typically starts a new class every 3 weeks)?

Yes, new classes start periodically. However, the number of folks waiting to start class is fluid and changes throughout the year. You may EAD, show up to Goodfellow, and sit in a casual job for several weeks or even several months. Or you may show up and start class right away. It all depends on timing, and the individual has no control over it whatsoever, so its best to try not to worry about it and just go along.
 
Thanks all, it's nice to know it's a common practice even if it is a frustrating one. I just had to laugh the other day finding out a third person from my FT flight got orders to Goodfellow. I'll get there eventually lol Nick I'll definitely give you a PM if I have questions, don't know too many people actively working intel.
