I was just curious if anybody in this forum has any knowledge regarding the 319th Airborne Field Artillery Regiment (I changed the title of the post because I assumed it wasn't catching anyone's attention). I will be matriculating at VMI this month on an Army ROTC scholarship, and I have been doing research on what type of career in the Army I would want once I commission. I discovered the 319th Airborne Field Artillery regiment and found myself intrigued; I never knew an airborne field artillery regiment even existed. It sounds like something I'd like to be a part of, but I can't seem to find much information about required training, among other things, to become a part of the regiment. If anyone knows anything, I would appreciate answers to the following questions:

How competitive is it to gain a position as an officer in this regiment, as opposed to other areas of the Army?

What type of training is required of the personnel within the regiment?

What steps can I take while at VMI to prepare myself for possible employment in this regiment (I would assume that it would be wise to take advantage of summer Airborne training, maybe join the VMI Cadet Battery)?

Any information regarding my questions will be very much appreciated.

It's cool that you are motivated... but don't go into the Army thinking you'll be assigned to any certain unit. The Army will be making all those decisions for you. Even when you are assigned to a unit, you'll only be there for a handfull of years before you will have to PCS to another assignment. The Army will never let you grow any roots.

I see. I had figured that I didn't have much choice in where I would be stationed. I just couldn't find any info on what training the soldiers in the regiment had. Thank you very much for your response.

Your best bet would be to try to branch FA and try to get stationed at Ft Bragg. 3 of the Regiments 4 battalions are in the 82nd. I know cadets have gone to the 319th for CTLT in the past, including this year, for what that's worth.
