Hi everyone! I made an account earlier this summer but never got around to introducing myself, so here it is! I just started my senior year at a large public, suburban high school. Freshman year when the Marines came on a recruiting day to my school, no girls were willing to try pull-ups so I tried them, got really interested in the Marines, started looking at SA and ROTC opportunities, and now I'm applying!
-4.0 GPA, ACT: 34 English/32 Math, SAT: 650 Verbal/720 Math.
-Varsity travel hockey since freshman year, only female on the team.
-Coach's Award jr year, Captain sr yr.
-President of the community service club at school since sophomore year.
-Debate&Forensics since freshman year. Varsity 10-12th.
-American Red Cross Lifeguard and WSI.
The advice and information on this site is incredible! Huge thank you to everybody here who shares all their great knowledge with us, and good luck to everybody and their sons/daughters who are applying! :)

Stats look great. You appear to the type of candidate the SA are looking for. You did not mention if you went to NASS or are considering CVW--if you did not do NASS--take a look at a CVW. Just to have an opportunity to see what the USNA is like. Wish you well. It is a long arduous journey from here to IDay!

Thank you! I couldn't attend NASS because of scheduling conflicts, but I'll be attending a CVW this fall, where I'll also be able to meet with the Navy women's hockey club team. I am very very excited to see what Midshipman life is like!

Be sure to apply to all noms for which you're eligible and give 100% to getting as many as possible. It's VERY hard (basically impossible) to receive an appointment w/o a nom.

Also, if your math and English teachers think you're terrific (I assume they do), make sure they say so in their recs. USNA relies heavily on teacher recs -- much more so that BGO recs -- so they need to be strong.

Excel on your CFA. Get your medical done early.

Good luck!!

Nomination interviews are the last thing I still have to do (until the dreaded medical DQ/waiver process :frown: ), and I am trying to prepare for them as much as I can.

Interesting that teacher recs are weighed more heavily than BGO recs, I mean, that definitely makes sense, but it's just something I've never really thought about. I ask a lot of questions and actively participate in class discussions, so I think they were good recs, hopefully!

Here are my CFA scores from last month:
Bball throw: 52 - yikes, is that bad?
Pull-ups: 7 (max)
Shuttle run: 9.5 sec
Crunches: 85
Push-ups: 50 (max)
Mile: 6:54.
I am considering retaking the CFA but not sure if I really should or not. Thank you for the tips!
