After a candidate goes to the CVW does the midshipman have to fill out a report?

Benefit of CVW

Great Question, would like to know as well. Also, does anyone know if it helps a candidate to attend CVW in terms of admissions? Especially if one has already attended NASS? Parents are trying to determine the cost benefit of another plane ticket.

Naval_Gopher, my DS went to both and loved them both. He actually went to the CVW first and had a good time and even participated in the Chem class and the he we t to NASS and had a great time. He felt that both were good be wise it gave two different views on being a Plebe. We live in the West and yes it was a it costly but my DS was changed in so many ways after attending the CVW and even more so after the NASS. So, if you can afford it and if he wants to see on a one on one basis what it is like especially in the classroom, then I would send him to the CVW. My son has no regrets and it helped in confirming the USNA is what he wanted. Hopes this helps.

My Son has expressed a lot of interest for becoming a Navy Officer since 7th grade (he is now a Junior), via USNA or NROTC. He already went to a STEM camp at USNA a couple of years ago and he loved it. He has been invited to a CVW in a couple of weeks, and he is very excited about that. I believe it will be an important step: he is going to love it, and in that case we know what he has to do, or he hates it, and he is going to move to somewhere else. My suggestion..... if you get an invitation, go...... save money somewhere else, but take that trip to Annapolis and..... good luck

Whether host mids submit a "review" has changed over the years -- sometimes yes, sometimes no.

I THINK "no" is the current process but am not sure. In any event, even if the mid fills out something, it's unlikely to have much influence unless the candidate says/does REALLY stupid things -- i.e., say he/she doesn't really want to attend, admits to using drugs and alcohol, refuses to participate in activities, etc.

They told us at the CVW that it has no bearing on the application process. I would take them at their word on that.

It is a tool for the candidates to find out if the USNA is a good fit for them. Hard to comprehend what you are getting yourself into if you have not been there. My DS seems to be on the fence after his visit.

As a current plebe, I don't think the plebe hosts had to fill out reports. It does give candidates a mild but accurate taste of academic year life, a basic understanding of how daily life functions on the yard (which would have been a big help to me at the start of this year), and can establish relationships with mids that will go a long ways plebe year. I would do it, if possible. Also, having done NASS and seen all of the drags around this year, the two are extremely different experiences, between a mild taste of plebe summer and of the AC year.

We do not fill out any form or evaluation. The CVW is entirely for the candidate, not the academy.

^Exactly. We don't submit any reports or anything. It's more about the candidate experiencing a snippet of life at USNA, so don't be paranoid. And for the record, Plebes that have drags usually are slightly less restricted.
