VP Biden's son leaves Navy after drug test

Hunter Biden, the youngest son of Vice President Joe Biden, has been kicked out of the military after testing positive for cocaine, two people familiar with the matter said Thursday.

Biden, a former lobbyist who works at an investment firm, was discharged from the Navy Reserve in February, the Navy said in a statement. The service did not give a reason for Biden's discharge barely a year after he was selected for the part-time position as a public affairs officer in the Navy Reserve.

In a statement released by his attorney, Biden did not give a reason for his discharge. He said he respected the Navy's decision and was moving forward with his family's support.

"It was the honor of my life to serve in the U.S. Navy, and I deeply regret and am embarrassed that my actions led to my administrative discharge," he said.

The vice president's office declined to comment.

Biden's attorney didn't respond to inquiries about whether Biden had used cocaine. But two people familiar with the matter said Biden was discharged after he failed a drug test last year. They weren't authorized to discuss the incident and requested anonymity.

The Wall Street Journal first reported Biden's discharge and failed drug test.

PAO is a tough field to DCO into especially when you don't have any Public Affairs experience, need an age waiver and a conduct waiver ... Hmmmm, of course who is father is had nothing to do with it, riiiiiiiiiight.

Saw this in Navy Times yesterday. Very interesting to say the least.

That's what I was thinking when I heard this story as well but wanted to check on this part

"...administrative discharge..."

Shouldn't that be a dishonorable? I don't know how it works on the officer side of things and Reserves so not sure if his father being who his father is made it something other than dishonorable.

I guess we can call this laughable and some of those other kind words mentioned abaft abeam.

I think this was posted on the ROTC sight.

Smells like he was trying to bolster his resume for political office, and got caught with his hand in the candy jar.

No, not all substance abuse discharges are dishonorable. Many are general discharges. The goal of the commander/ medical provider is to allow the Soldier to maintain VA benefits for access to drug treatment.

Thank you very much for the explanation :thumb:

Mods,

I think you need to combine the ROTC thread with this one.

Mabry,

I understand your position of getting them help and the VA bennies, but this guy, joined at 42!

Cynic in me says that he had an ulterior motive, and it was not to defend this great nation. I wonder how many age waivers the Reserves have given to 40 year old men and a history of drug use.

My guess...not a lot! Heck, I am willing to bet if the media did their job, he is probably the only 42 that commissioned into Navy Reserves as an Ensign with a drug history!

Seriously, he entered the Reserves when his military peers were retiring.

I am sure he got at the very least a general, and that is not a biggie, his last name will carry him! Daddy is someone that any employer will want à connection to use and will look past his drug issues.

Pima, you are always right on the money.

PIMA for PRESIDENT!:thumb:

I didn't know how get it moved to the ROTC side. I don't think the Mods care too much for me with scoutpilot.

PIMA... you read my mind (again).

Yeah, age waived at 42. Can you imagine???? And at this late stage in his life, still snorting.

Unbelievable. and how shameful.

I guess the medical field must be different, our good friend is the Commander of the Aerospace Medical Squadron at JBLM, he entered the AF at 45.

An age waiver to be in Public Relations in the Navy Reserve sounds like it take a few strings pulled.

Let's not assume snorting... Smoking crack isn't just a poor minority habit...
