I know that some have posted here that they were invited to a CVW as a high school junior. Was that after filling out the summer seminar application? How did USNA get your information to initiate an invite?

I got an invitation as a Junior and attended this past weekend! (Oct. 16-18) I haven't yet applied for Summer Seminar, as that application opens on January 15.

This is by no means a fact, but amongst those of us who attended CVW, a group of us were talking and decided that we all shared certain characteristics:

• None of us got accepted to STEM.
• Most of us applied late in the process.
• We were geographically dispersed.

That's all that I know, so you'd have to make your own assumption on how the invitation process works for Juniors!

DD received an invitation as a junior a day or two after she submitted her summer seminar application and attended in February. She also was accepted to NASS and attended. Today she received an LOA.

can you clarify? thanks a bunch!

The Naval Academy does what is called "rolling admissions." If I understand correctly, this means that they start going through the applications as soon as they're posted and started marking people "yes" or "no" immediately, saving fewer and fewer spots for those that apply late...

By late, I don't mean post-deadline, but near the deadline. (ex: Application is open Jan. 1- Mar. 30 and I applied on Mar. 20) Maybe we WERE qualified but the limited number of slots were filled.

I attended STEM after my Freshman year, and it was awesome! I'm not sure if I remember seeing that you (Vista123) aren't yet an upperclassman, but I definitely recommend really trying to get into the STEM program first! You don't get to see "Academy Life" per se, but you really get a feel for the yard and it's much more worth the transportation costs if you'll be traveling long-distance.

Hi FighterPilotHopeful, Im actually a mom of a mid (youngster). I was asking for a friend who has a junior in high school. and BTW I totally agree my daughter did STEM and LOVED it.

Almost all of the drags at this past CVW were juniors! It seemed that there were less than 10 of us seniors and all of us were either done or almost completely done our applications. Whenever you get a chance, make sure you attend a CVW, I think it's the most informative thing an applicant can do to get a taste of what real life at the Academy is like. I had a fantastic time!

I agree with flynavy! I was able to talk to a few Juniors and give them tips on how to make their applications more competitive! There were A LOT of Juniors at this past CVW session.
