Does SLS help you get an appointment?

So. I know there is no guarantee - nothing is ever guaranteed. I was somewhat happy that SLS would help make me a better candidate, but I've been reading some posts lately that suggest otherwise. I have to work hard to get an appointment - no doubt about it, but does SLS really give you an edge?

Did you intend to post this in the USMA forum? If you meant to post in the USAFA forum I can move it for you.

Ah, I meant it too be here. I've already made a thread on the USAFA forum and didn't want to look like I was spamming. I was asking about SLS in general and simply used the USAFA website as part of my question.

Thanks anyway!

No problem, I just wanted to make sure.

I'm not sure attending SLS gives you an advantage but it certainly can't hurt. My son applied for SLS but did not get in. He was told by our local USMA field force that SLS only has so many slots and they try to reach out to candidates from various backgrounds and locations. It didn't mean he wasn't a viable candidate for an appointment.

My opinion is to apply for it, go if you get in, but don't stress if you don't get accepted.

When my son was there last year, he was told about 50% of the kids from SS end up receiving appointments to USMA. He still keeps in touch with some of the kids who were in his group -I think there were 12 and 4 people including my son received appointments already. A couple of kids in his group knew while they were there that WP wasn't for them so they didn't finish their application process.

So, yeah I think it helps to get accepted and attend SS but also you get your interview out of the way and get to do a freebie CFA (they'll use your score if pass or if you fail they don't use that score and you get another chance later on in the process).
