How long does NROTC application processing take?

Dear All,

I'm curious. From your experience, how long does the following stay on the site until an applicant is ready to be assessed? I'm assuming that this means that candidate's file isn't even ready to be looked at yet. DS finished his application in August. He's really cool about it, is enjoying his senior year, and is working on plans B and C. This parent, though, could do a better job of learning patience (maybe learn it from my own son:biggrin:?)

Application has been submitted online Your electronic application has been received and is being processed ...
Your application is at Naval Education and Training Command for final processing and selection determination. Selection decisions will begin in late August and continue until the end of April. Once a selection decision has been made, your new status will be reflected.

The website is notoriously slow to change.

Every once in a while it will go blank, change, look different etc which will give you a clue that someone is working on the system (not necessarily your individual page).

Hang in there... I think my DS' site read as "missing items" all the way up to the point it changed to say "Congratulations..."

Sorry I don't have better feedback for you. I know how frustrating it can be.

I went through the process about a month ago, and it took about 10 days to change from that to "The NSTC Selection/Placement Office has received your application. No decision has been made yet."

The following info is from an email I got from NROTC

Continue to monitor the status of your application, use the following link to check your status:
https://www.netfocus.netc.navy.mil/nrotc/candidate_app/status_scholarship.aspx

The status of your application will change from:
At Recruiter Level for Processing
To
At NRC level for Processing
To
At NSTC for Processing
To
At NSTC, Board Ready
To
Pending Decision

Once status changes to 'Pending Decision' your application is being reviewed by the Selection Board.

You must stay in contact with your Recruiter/Coordinator until your application reaches the
'Pending Decision' level.

Interesting that the link you provided allows one to change their school choices if they want to...netfocus does not mention that at all.

I believe you can always change your school list. My son did not get into his first choice school so he went out and immediately changed the order of schools on his list. A week later he was awarded his scholarship to his new first choice school.

+1 to navymomwannabe. I know my son changed his school preferences at least once after his application was complete.

Last year my DD changed the order of her schools after the first board, too, when she was not selected. She was then selected for a scholarship on the 2nd board and it was awarded to her new 1st choice school, which is where she is attending now!

To the original poster, if it appears that your file is not board ready, and you completed everything back in August, I would definitely reach out to your local NROTC Scholarship Coordinator to see what the issue might be. If you do not get a response from him/her, then contact NST directly. Our DS did not complete his file until the week before the 1st board in September and the file was ready, and he was selected for the scholarship by the first board.

Does it matter if one changes out some schools or can you only change the order of the rankings like moving what might be a reach school farther down the list and putting "for sure's" a the top?

Generally school does not matter. The board selects you for scholarship. Your package moves to a different group to assign you to a school. If your number one choice is available, you get it. If not, they work down your list.
Switching schools once selected is different.
