AROTC winner. What now?

I was awarded a ROTC scholarship last night to my top three schools. Now that I am awarded the scholarship how long do I have to make a decision? What happens if I accept the scholarship to a school that I don't make it into? I have to be honest I am very new to this process so any and all information is much appreciated!

I was awarded the scholarship to the University of Virginia, Florida, and Georgia. I believe I am going to substitute Virginia tech or Clemson for Georgia. If it was up to me, I would attend the University of Florida if accepted. The same situation goes for the University of Virginia since it is very difficult to get into. But what happens if I accept my scholarship to the university of Florida, not knowing if I am accepted or not, and then I don't get accepted to the school?

You will receive an offer letter that will explain the process now that you have offers. Basically you will accept one and decline the rest. If you later find that you didn't get into the school you accepted the offer for or change your mind you may be able to request to transfer that scholarship offer. So, for now make sure you carefully read the offer letter when it arrives, do the best you can to make a choice, and then stay in contact with the school you want to attend, and if you are waivering or may request a transfer keep in touch with the other school/Battalion.

and the last piece of advice is not to rely on the advice you get on the discussion board, other than as a starting point. Now is the time to contact your gaining Battalion and create a dialogue with them as you go through this process. I would call the ROO at U of F tomorrow and tell her/him how excited you are to have this opportunity and ask them what the next step should be for you.

Does a ROO have any pull (directly or indirectly) with admissions at a school?

Depends on the school. I'm guessing the ROO at U of F probably not since it is a big, selective state school. I could be wrong, so I go back to my original post regarding contacting the ROO and not relying on some stranger from upstate New York for your information. At my school (in upstate New York) admissions gets my list of winners as soon as they are released. If you are sure of the school, and you are a first boarder you should look into early decision if it's available at your top school. That being said, just looked at U of F's website and priority application ended 1 November, so it looks like you will be regular admissions...But you might still want to ask.

+1 depends on the school

Of the three schools my son was awarded a national scholarship to:
one school had no pull at all, one had a pull, and one had a strong pull.

Unless UF has changed things, they got rid of early decision a few years ago. My son applied there last year by the November deadline, knowing that he wouldn't hear anything until February. We lucked out in two respects: 1.) DS wasn't awarded scholarship until 2nd board in January, so he was within the 30-day time frame to respond as an affirmative to UF and, 2.) At the last minute, he changed from having UF as his first choice school (and where he had his interview) to it being his 2nd choice school after touring another school on his list and speaking with the ROO at that school. Therefore, it became a mute point. As Clarkson said, you can try contacting the ROO (and I definitely suggest that you do -- you have nothing to lose), although no guarantees.

I'm in the same boat as you! I'm very new to this whole process and over the past few months I have been trying to learn as much as possible.

I received a 4 year scholarship to my top 3 schools. SMU is my top choice of school but it is a private school and my admission decision isn't supposed to come out until late December. So what I did was call the admissions office and ask for my admission decision to be released early. They said they would call or email me back with whether or not I can have access to the results. I also contacted the ROO at SMU and told him my situation.

My advice: Do that and be patient. If you are not able to find out if you got into your number 1 school by the time you must make a decision then I would go with one of the choices you know you have gotten into or know you will get into.
