This question is for AROTC. I got asked a question, did some research, and want to make sure this is correct.
You get awarded a 4-Yr ARTOC scholarship to three similar cost schools. You will not be notified as to acceptance until March.
You assign your scholarship to school A, but do not get accepted. At that point you can reassign the scholarship to school B or C if the schools still have an allocation and CC supports the move. Is that correct?

Since there are 3 different dates the board meets, if you are accepted during one of them, you should receive notification soon after if you were selected for a scholarship from that board. I believe the latest you will find out is March because that is around when the last board meets. After receiving your acceptance letter, you have 30 days to accept the scholarship to one of the schools listed. If you don't get into that school, you'll have to have the scholarship transferred to a different school. Your info on that is pretty correct since CC does have to authorize the transfer of scholarship.

Hopefully others will chime in, because I definitely don't have the best info on the scholarship process since it's been over 5 years since I was in it. I'm not sure if CC selects schools that are similar in cost or not.

*I used "you" a lot in the post, but wasn't necessarily referring to you specifically, OldSalt.

Bull,
I should have been more clear in my question.
Assume the candidate gets notified in November that they have received a 4-yr scholarship to three similar cost schools. They have 30 days (December) to accept the scholarship to a particular school, but will not know until March whether they have gain acceptance to any of the schools. Is the process of reassign the school as explained above?
Thanks,
OS

Whoops, my bad, I think I misread your post a little bit.

Let's make sure we use the proper term. You won't reassign, and you won't have the scholarship tranferred...what will happen is if you can't use your scholarship at the school that you accepted it to you will have the opportunity to request that that offer be transferred to another school. So, you will be asking and Cadet Command will be granting or denying that request....just to be clear.

COA,
The oracle as always. Thanks! How common is it for requests to be granted if the receiving unit has slots? Does timing play a role or is it a rack and stack at the end like the Navy?

Hard for me to say because my foxhole has a unique view. Most of the applicants I have had that are looking to transfer in or out are STEMs that are coming to Clarkson to study engineering or looking for some type of STEM we don't have and have been accepted to a prestigious school. I have not had a transfer request denied in quite a few years. Additionally our Brigade has a little different way of managing "slots", so we usually get more than our share, and I don't usually worry about how many "slots" we have. There is always room for one more highly qualified STEM.
