For those of you who remember, I have already passed the CFA (taken late September). Today I was contacted by email by my regions admissions officer stating "I think that you can strengthen your application by retaking the Candidate Fitness Assessment. I recommend your train for it and focus on improving your push-ups and crunches and then retake the test in a month". Is this a normal thing to happen to people?

For otherwise competitive applicants, yes. This is actually good news. Now follow their rec, practice and knock it out of the park!

Any feedback is a good thing. I STRONGLY recommend you do it. It's not a guarantee of an appointment but, if you don't do as they say, you have probably significantly reduced your chances.

USNA1985, i figured declining his offer would have a negative impact so i agreed to it the morning after (i received the email at night). Im already in the process of re training

For general readers, the three events that are most important to USNA are crunches, push-ups and the mile run. (Other SAs may have different priorities).

The good news for the OP is that crunches and push-ups are the easiest areas in which to improve. Simply do them every day and you WILL get better. In a hurry.

Good luck!

Watch your form.

If you're training by yourself, you might want to take some video and make sure your form is good. It's easy to develop bad form with both pullups and pushups if training alone.

What is a "regions admissions officer"? A BGO?

"Regional Directors" are the O-3s in Candidate Guidance who are largely responsible for the candidates. They are organized by geographic region. They are the "go to" folks for questions about individual applications that the BGO either can't answer or can't do. For example, if you want to retake your CFA, you get the RD to reset your scores. If you need to substitute a teacher rec for some reason, talk to the RD. If you have questions as to your status, the RD is your person.

My family and I are visiting USNA next week, and attending the game (Dad is an '88 grad). I was planning on visiting and introducing myself to my RD, but was wondering if this is generally acceptable or viewed as annoying. Any comments are appreciated!

Not annoying but not sure you'll find him/her. It is a WE and thus the RDs may not be on the Yard. From what I understand, Admissions holds a briefing each Saturday on the Admissions process. My guess is that the RDs rotate that responsibility so only one has to be there each WE. However, I could be wrong about that. It's certainly worth a shot.

If you are planning to go to the Yard on a weekday, I would email your RD ahead of time to see when might be good for them...you might find they may or may not be available. In some cases, they might be able to set a meeting time.

There are no "brownie" points for meeting your RD, but it is always a good idea to put a face and name together. If you have questions, come prepared...but don't be one of those candidates who just wants to ask about their status. Remember, they are taking time out of their day to meet with you, so you should make it meaningful.

Thank you both! I met with him today, great meeting, very informative and as you said, very nice to put a face with the emails!
