As to stats, they vary widely year to year and even board to board. It's more calculus than arithmetic. Scholarships offered depend on projected needs of the future active duty force, so they change from year to year.
Good luck! It's important to stay motivated and focused on the goal....there are multiple opportunities to earn a scholarship and many ways to earn a commission, even without a scholarship.
Confirming the other posts... The November board notifications come out right around Christmas. 4 years ago, I think my DS heard on the 24th via the Portal. A hard copy letter showed up 10 days (or so) later.
The February board notifications generally come out in April with notifications going right up until May 1.
I have never seen stats like applicants vs scholarships awarded. I am sure they are out there but I don't have a source. I did see once source state an overall selection rate for NROTC of approx. 20% but that can vary widely I am sure.
Here is a SWAG so widely off it would probably be laughable to anyone that knows the real numbers... One way of working the math is that by the summer after junior year, all Marine Option ROTC midshipmen have to attend OCS in Quantico. There are two sessions with approximately 150 per session. So by Junior year, there are approximately 300 guys going the ROTC scholarship route. They have to assume some attrition from freshman year till then, so perhaps 350 scholarships are awarded every year?
Here are the actual stats from the second increment of OCS this summer:
130 PLC-Senior candidates arrived at OCS, 126 began training with Company L of that 118 (93.65%) are scheduled to graduate this cycle; compared to 121 of 145 (83.4%) that graduated from Company E in 2d Increment Summer 2013.
147 NROTC candidates arrived at OCS, 138 began training with Company L of that 108 (78.26%) are scheduled to graduate this cycle; compared to 131 of 170 (77.1%) that graduated from Company G in 2d Increment Summer 2013.
