USAFA 2015 Summer Seminar:

You can apply online from December 1 – January 31

Session "A" 7 - 12 June 2015
Session "B" 14 - 19 June 2015

I went last year and it really changed what I thought about the Academy. It's a really great experience and managed to get me off the fence about "yeah I'll apply but if it comes down to the Academy and ROTC, I'll pick ROTC" to "I'll apply and the AFA looks like a good fit for me."

It was a great time for me, I strongly encourage you guys to do it.

Only 3 more days!

Good luck guys! I went to Summer Seminar last year; it was a total blast! If you have any questions about what the experience or application was like last year-feel free to ask!

Started my application to the SS yesterday! I'm excited and nervorous at the same time. I'm not sure what to say for the writing prompts though. Is there something specific they want to hear?

Same here !! Wasn't sure what to put for overcoming adversity as personally never been put in situations such as those

Think broadly about adversity. What matters is not a sad story, but that you know how to overcome and persevere. This quality can be found in athletics, academics, and social interaction. What have done that shows you are not a quitter? Reflect on it and you will do fine. USAFA SS was instrumental in helping my DS select his number one.

On my essay, rather than choosing one big challenge, I chose several formative challenges, such as the difficulty of walking to work for 8 months in the winter so I could buy a car and pay for sports so I could get a letter...and other such events. I tried to use the essay to showcase not only my ability to handle adversity, but also show that I was a hard worker and to show that everything I do is oriented towards being accepted into USAFA. Definitely use this essay to showcase as many good qualities about yourself as possible. I would also recommend taking plenty of time to think on your responses. My first essay was absolutely nothing like my final draft, but I remember I would sit down, write a draft, wait a few weeks, come back to it, rewrite the entire thing, wait a while, edit it, and so on, until I felt confident that my essay was good. While it is tempting to rush the application, I advise you guys to take your time; you will get much better results, I promise ;)

Thanks for the replies about the essay prompts. Especially on the adversity one. I'm hoping to see you all at the SS!

For all those who don't get accepted, it isn't the end of the world. I wasn't accepted to the seminar, and now I'm here. To be honest, most people I know here didn't go to the seminar. It helps you see life here (to an extent) but I wouldn't make my decision to come/not come solely based off my seminar experience
