One can participate in the SSOP to pursue a navel reserve commission. I believe MMA also has an Army ROTC program (cross town with BU).

You can also commission into the Coast Guard through the MARGRAD (Maritime Academy Graduate) Program. Platoon Leaders Class is also available for the Marine Corps.

I live about 5 miles from Mass Maritime Academy and know some parents whose kids go there. They do have an Army ROTC program, which I believe still has Colonel Ty Dilliplane as the CO and also a professor. Ty is a great guy. Haven't spoken to him in a few years so I'm not sure if he's still there. He used to take the seniors out for a dinner after finals every year and regale them with his own experiences, including being a 22 year old 2nd lieutenant just months out of college in 1969 (itself, an interesting time to be on college campuses) in command of a platoon in South Vietnam, two-thirds of whom were draftees not too enthusiastic about serving. Talk about pressure for a junior commander! I'm pretty sure he did his 30 years before retiring and becoming an academic. Great story-teller.
Remember also, Mass Maritime has a very limited number of majors (mostly related to, well, maritime-related topics) so don't look to getting an accounting or business or computer degree there.
I think the cross-town campus is Stonehill College in Easton, MA. About a one hour drive northwest of Mass Maritime. No train or bus available.
On the good side, across the street from Mass Maritime is the Port of Call, a bloody bucket of a tavern that will serve anyone old enough to look over the bar. Cadets welcome!
Mass Maritime is located on a peninsula jutting out into Buzzards Bay, which is quite picturesque but can get damn old with bitter oceans winds in the winter months. In warmer weather the beaches of Cape Cod and other tourist-related sites are very close.
Cost of attendance is probably among the least expensive for a four-year in Massachusetts. Probably about $15K/year or so. I don't think commuting is allowed.
Surprisingly, given that cadets train on ships and take cruises to the Caribbean and whatnot, there's no Navy ROTC program there. Go figure.

Hello, my DD just got accepted into Mass Maritime and she will be looking into the SSOP program which seems like the NROTC equivalent. She is very happy as it was her ORIGINAL first choice school. A service academy remains her #1 school but she will try out for SSOP at Maritime as a solid plan B.

About MARGRAD, if you're not from those maritime academies and from like (Villanova, United States Naval Academy, Virginia Tech, Old Dominion University, any of the schools at http://www.sname.org/communities1/studentsections etc),

You can go USN direct commission from Mass Maritime or UNR directly upon graduation from Mass Maritime (Son) with the commitment. Maritime Reserves make a lot more money as they are working commercial. Son was one of I think went six to USNR and one for USN. It was on the Constitution in Boston Harbor. Great ceremony although if you are over six foot duck when you stand to take a picture. Those Dress Whites look good.
