Multiple Noms w/ LOA

Hi all,

Yesterday morning, I was blessed with an LOA from USAFA. My congressional interview will be in January and I'm genuinely worried about obtaining a nomination to both USNA and USAFA. Many have posted that if an LOA recipient does well on an interview, the MOC would most likely award the nom to him/her. However, because I have an LOA to two academies, will my MOC award me two noms?

Thanks everyone!

It depends....are you in an area that is considered competitive for nominations? There are some MOCs that will give out to multiple SAs, but there are some even if the MoCs don't talk will only give out to one.

My suggestion is to pick up the phone and call the staff. Ask them directly, say I have an LOA to both USAFA and USMA, is it going to be possible for them to give me nominations to both?

They may say yes, they may say maybe or they may say no. I would use these next few weeks and think about which one you want more if they maybe or no.

If I've already had my interviews with my MoCs, would it be rude to call and ask if I would be able to receive multiple nominations? I have LOAs from USNA, USMA, and USAFA, but I made it pretty clear I had a number one choice so I don't want to seem greedy by asking.

JMPO, I would not contact them. The interviews are done and they are preparing the slate.
UNLESS..
You are 100% positive that the only SA you want is is USXX than contact them.

Your comment of being greedy reads to me that you want an SA appointment more than what occurs after you commissioning.

In essence you want the options.

I am not trying to be antagonistic. I am trying to say are you going to call Sen A and say USNA, Sen.B you say USMA. Congressmen USAFA.

Hopefully you get all three, but in the end you have to make a choice. Time to say I will get all three, but in 5 years from now where do I see myself?

I have to say I agree with Pima. It is definitely time to begin narrowing it down just in case you have to make the decision "now" as opposed to "later". You'll (perhaps) have to make a choice anyway and I'd recommend looking at how you would prefer to serve after college.

Also, I'm no expert on this but it wouldn't hurt to drop a letter to the MOC's nomination coordinator where you have already had your interview. It's far less intrusive than a phone call. I wouldn't do anything other than to inform them of the most recent LOA. They can't "help" you if they don't know. The remaining interviews can be handled during the interview, but expect them to ask which is your first choice - so be prepared with the answer.

Thank you everyone!

I am actually on a high school leadership group that meets up every two weeks in my congressman's office so I speak to the staffer often!
I will go ahead and speak to him about that.

I don't think my area is as competitive as others. I live in Northern California, but unlike the rumors from candidates I've met from other states, my district is one of the less competitive I believe.

In regards to the greediness, I can assure you I am applying and hoping to attend a SA to commission and although it's an honor to become appointed to any three, my ultimate goal is to commission and lead. I know the academy is only a four year journey and the responsibilities I have after those four years are what I should be thinking of when making a decision.
