Class of 2019 candidate received just received invite to CVW. Candidate attended STEM as 9th grader but not selected for NASS. Is this a good sign that appointment offer could happen? Does USNA Admissions discuss candidate's admissions status during CVW?[/

Visitors at CVW will not know anything more about possible admission than they do now. DS was invited to NASS and CVW. Wait listed at NAPS and did not get in. An invite means you have the qualifications they want, but no guarantee you will get in. In the same respect, many kids who don't get NASS or CVW get in.

Someone posted not too long ago that they were offered an appointment while at CVW.

This is a very rare case to where this might be the only time this has happened. CVW's usually have zero correlation to the application status. Take the CVW to have your DS see if he like the Academy or not and have a better idea of what life is like at the academy.

+1 Nollie

Each year posters try to analyze the "importance" of getting an invitation to a CVW. In short it is "good news", it generally means you're a competitive candidate...but it is not a guarantee of appointment.

True. On my first application, and now on my second, I was offered a CVW before I had barely any documents in - a bit surprising. Not sure why they offered it a second time. CVW is great opportunity.

Agree with everyone. CVW is more of a marketing and promotional campaign to get the would-be Ivy Leaguer or multi-SA appointee to choose USNA.
DS was invited to Fall CVW but was tied up in Fall sports. Upon request, DS's USNA Regional Admissions Officer arranged to move the CVW invitation to Spring.

As stated, this had no bearing on admission status. It is a good opportunity to see if the USNA is a good fit for you. My DS went and I highly recommend the program.

You are absolutely right! To be clear...this person was not saying he was offered an appointment because of how well his CVW went, only that they had already appointed him and used that opportunity to present in person. I hope it doesn't have any real effect on admission as my DS turned his invitation down. It fell on homecoming weekend and he had already asked a girl to the dance! :zip: He was ok with this because he had been to NASS.
