Guard Time (SMP) Conversion to Active Time Credited?

Just curious how Guard time converts to active on pay scale (service time). I found this post on a forum. Does it look right?

Don't worry about the point system, that's unrelated to pay. That's used to determine Reserve retirement eligibility.

When you enlist, you get a Pay Entry Base Date (PEBD) the day you enter the service. This is the date that is used to calculate years of service for pay purposes. It does not change unless you have a break in service (get out of the military).

The Basic Active Service Date (BASD) is what is used to calculate retirement for active duty folks. It only counts time spent on active duty.

Say I have been in the Reserve for three years, but only did 1 year on active duty to deploy to Afghanistan. Then I commission into the Regular Army at the end of year 3. My PEBD is still the day I left for basic in the Army Reserve, so I get payed as an 01 with 3 years time in service. My BASD is the day I show up for active duty as an LT, minus 1 year for my deployment time to Afghan. So I have been in for 3, but still have to do 19 more for an active duty retirement.

You are eligible for retirement benefits after 20 yrs in either guard/reserves or active duty.
It's just that guard/reserve retirement benefits do not kick in until age 60 I believe. That is where the extra points or active duty time comes into play. The earliest a guard/reservist can receive retirement benefits is age 53, I believe.
I'm running off memory of I conversation I had so I might be a little off.

Also, does SMP time count towards your time in service?
DS is an ECP cadet that is required to do SMP, but his time in service does not start until he commissions. He never went to basic or AIT.

I have an additional question on this same topic.
I was active duty for three years, and then joined the reserve component to be an SMP cadet. I joined the reserve component after they just finished AT my first year. Last year I attended all drills and spent 9 weeks on orders during the summer (reclass & AT). This year I will not go to AT due to CLT (or whatever it is called). Next year I will commission before I go to AT. I am contracted (NOT GRFD).

Assuming I go active duty, will my three years in the reserve component count as one year of active duty? The reason I ask is because 4 years is the requirement in order to get O-1E pay.

Please dumb it down..... I think I got it. DS SMPed with the guard his senior year of HS. He went to basic the summer after graduation. The summer after freshman college he went to AIT. So he has been fully deployable since summer 12. When he commissions how will this affect his time. O1 pay with 2.75 years. I understand still 20 years to retirement.

Also, does SMP time count towards your time in service?

DS has completed Basic and AIT

O-1E pay is given for either 4 years active Federal service or a certain number of Reserve retirement points. You can Google it, I think it's something like 1560.
