Visiting the academy?

Not anymore. Just day visits, as far as I know.

What is the best way to arrange the visit for the candidates who accepted appointment? We are visiting January 11-13

The academy does not have overnight visits but they do have day tours where you can spend the day with a cadet. My son did this after he was appointed and really enjoyed it. He learned a few things too.
Go to the academy admissions page, there is a link to request a tour.

Also, Juniors in High School can apply for Summer Seminar and if they are accepted (and pay $300), they get to spend a week at USAFA between their Junior and Senior year. It is an incredible experience and truly worth the $$

Also, if you ever get contacted regarding the Diversity Visitation Program, pursue it! My ALO contacted me regarding the program and put my name in (had to fill out a pretty extensive application for me) for a spot. It is a 5 day trip to the Academy, all expenses paid. There were about 25 of us for the session I attended. We got to tour just about every part of the Academy, sleep in a cadet's room, attend some of their classes, go to meals with them, etc. Even got to meet Col Benyshek (Director of Admissions), Gen Armacost (Dean of Faculty), Gen Williams (Commandant), and Gen Johnson (Superintendent). Overall great experience. PM me if you have any questions.

Just wanted to over emphasize how amazing DVP was for myself! It is a great experience where you will get to see the cadets in full go, you will get to ask questions, and most of all receive admissions help one-on-one with your counselors! This is not exactly advertised, but many DVP attendees have been offered appointments and LOA's. Also, the year before almost all DVP students who attended (and finished their part of the deal) got accepted. Not saying this program is a cure all, as it requires you to be a great student as usual, but it is a great opportunity. This program definitely puts you on their radars as the admissions representatives have called or emailed most attendees weeks/months after attending to double check on our progress and status! I even saw an applicant who has only completed two components of the application and she received an extreme amount of one on one help to give her a fair shot to the Academy.

Also, some realized that the academy was not for them. So the program is a success both ways.

BY THE WAY - I was never contacted by my ALO. I KNEW I had ethnicity, socioeconomic, and other special circumstances going in my favor to meet the academies diversity search. You don't have to wait to be contacted by your ALO, if you even think you meet diversity standards, also contact your ALO respectively and they will have a portal where they can recommend you for the program. My ALO told me he wasn't aware of the program and he was impressed with my pro activeness.

The following dates are currently scheduled as “Appointee Tours” for the Class of 2019.

3 April
13 April
17 April
20 April
27 April (TBD based on the number of RSVPs)

These “special” tours will include a more robust program than normal admissions tours held throughout the year. Some of the tour dates correspond with Falcon sporting events which will allow appointees and their parents to enjoy a game/match. More details to follow on how to register.

A word regarding diversity:

Yes, it does mean racial and gender diversity as one might expect, but USAFA's idea of "diversity" is not limited to just those designations.

Here are some (not all) of their diversity categories:

Race (URM,s obviously)
Gender
Home State
Homeschoolers

There are more, but I surely do love that last one!

Hi, where did you find the info on appointee tours? I've been all through the website and unable to locate that information. My DD has an appointment but was unaware of this opportunity. Thanks!

I would go if there if you can, it would be a great experience.

Congratulations!
