AROTC Scholarship Question

My son is applying for the AROTC Scholarship. His status I think is qualified. He is taking his PFT on Monday. I have not found any info on expectations for the PFT ( 1 min sit up/ push up/ 1 mile run) only on the test that you have to pass while at school ( the 2 min tests and 2 mile run)

Any ideas of what is respectible results?

Also, he is scheduling his interview. I believe the deadline is Jan 9 to submit the application, which he has but does the interview and PFT also need to be done by the 9th or just by board review ( thought I read that somewhere here) and when does the board meet?

Thanks.

Don't know what the targets are, but my DS did 52 p/u, 50 s/u, and a 7:30 mile. His mile time was slow since he had to take the test at noon when the heat index was 100.

First off, I don't think there is a qualified status, so he is either eligible, ineligible, or interviewee (at least that's what I see for an applicant). Since he hasn't received an offer and he is in the process of lining up interview and PFT he is probably in an interviewee status.

With regards to the PFT...you can download the scorecard and read what the standards are right from application website. The expectation is that he does as many situps and curlups as he can and runs as fast as he can. There are really no published standards, but if you take the APFT standards and divide them in half you can get a rough idea of what is good. If he is doing 40 pushups, 40 curlups and running a mile in 7 minutes he's doing alright. Keep in mind that this is not the most important part of the application, so don't let him lose sleep over a pushup or two.

So, the deadline to apply is actually 10 Jan. He has already done that. The deadline to have his file complete for the last board is 28 February. He missed the first two boards, so he has one last shot to get a high school scholarship. If he doesn't get an offer he can still come to campus, enroll in Army ROTC classes, and hopefully compete for a campus based scholarship some day.

Thank you for your replies.

So he doesn't need to rush the PFT and interview by the 10th? He wanted to work on getting his mile time down (not sure what it is). He just needs to do both before Feb 28?

He will do both this month for certain. I think his application status is Eligible, sorry, new to all of this!!!

Eligible is the correct status. Under the APPLICATION tab and then the SELECTION STATUS tab is where you will find this.

The average for the CFA for USMA candidates is 72 sit-ups in 2min, 54 push-ups in 2min and 6:43 mile. As indicated above a 40, 40 and 7 is good bet.

Ok, thank you!!

Just want to confirm that the PFT and Interview do not need to be uploaded by the 10th, just before the board meets? Is that accurate? Sorry, don't want to miss the oportunity.

Thanks so much. He will definitely complete both in January. Wish I had found the forums sooner !! Would have done things different.
