Class of 2019 - How Am I Doing So Far?

I have been 3Qed as of late November, and I have had a Presidential Nomination since March, 2014. I understand Senatorial and Congressional Nominations are already being sent out, but I have yet to receive any.

I'm curious whether having a Presidential Nomination may hurt my chances of receiving any other form of nomination. Also, I have applied to all nominating sources.

Congratulations on your Presidential nomination. There is not one answer to your question that is true for everyone. It is situationally defendant. Some of the nomination committees will not nomination someone if they already have a nomination for that specific academy. The intent is to give the most people a nomination as possible. Others do not do this and will not consider it at all. Now, that does not apply (at least for he committee members I have talked to) for nominations received for other academies. For example, if you received a nomination to USMA already, the panel may not give you another one for USMA, but they may give you one for one of the other academies. Again, it all depends. I have talked with notating officials who do it boh ways.

Thanks for the info! It makes sense for the nominating sources to give their nominations to others without one. Before, I thought that was only the case for those hoping to get a Vice-Presidential Nomination.

Also, I was wondering whether having multiple nominations will increase a candidate's chance for an appointment? I assume West Point chooses candidates based off their WCS, so does it help to have at least 2 nominations? Thanks again!

The more noms you have, the more opportunities you give West Point to give you an appointment.

Presidential noms and MOC noms are different in a couple of ways.

Everyone who qualifies for a Pres Nom gets one. However, only 100 get slotted for that nom and the rest go on the NWL. WP selects those 100 based on WCS.

With a MOC nom, MOCs submit to WP a slate of 10 candidates that they nominate. Everyone on the slate has a nomination. The MOC chooses how the candidate is selected to receive their slot - either by competitive method (WCS) or principle method ( MOC ranks). With the second method, it is possible that someone with a lower WCS gets the slot over someone with a higher WCS. With both competitive and principle methods, the 9 who did not win the slot, go on the NWL (unless they have a LOA, in which case, they get an appointment by just being on the slate).

Thanks, buff! Unfortunately, I'm thinking I may not get any other noms because of my Pres nom. Maybe the better strategy would have been to wait to apply for the Presidential after Congressional and Senatorial noms went out. Regardless, I'll do what I can to raise my WCS in any way I can.

Why wouldn't they give you one if you had a presidential?

A Presidential nomination is based on a parent's service, not a candidate's application like a MOC nomination. Hundreds of Presidential nominations are given out; only 100 are slated by the academy. It is not the same competition as a MOC nomination.

My friend who applied for the Presidential Nomination and went to all MOC interviews received a nomination from both sources. I hope you receive your nominations soon from MOCs, although many, if not all nominations in my region were already sent out. Typically they'll send you a letter about whether you got one or not.

Most of my nom sources are sending theirs in right before the deadline, it's difficult to wait so long.
