Can someone convert my ACT 28 math score for the naval academy based on what the naval academy truly uses. I 've read anywhere from 640 - 680 for different conversion charts. Thanks in advance.

Looking at it from an actual score divided by max possible score perspective, a 28 ACT would equate to a 620 SAT.

I see what you did... I did the same thing except I took away 200 points to represent the the 0-600 score instead of 200-800. I did the ratio and got 470, then I added 200 to represent the 800 max score, which is 670. I don't think that either of our score calculations are true. I need the real USNA conversion chart to confirm scores. Thank you though.

Here is the concordance table from the College Board.

http://www.act.org/solutions/college-career-readiness/compare-act-sat/

It doesn't specifically show the Math equivalencies but since the others are 620-630 I think we can safely say that a 28 equals a 620-630.

I too have thought of that but other forms state otherwise... English is weighted differently than Math when they convert. That I can confirm because I've seen it on numerous conversion charts. Math is higher though, so again, I really respectfully request the real USNA score conversion chart if anyone one has it on hand. Thank you for your interest in my topic though TVcaster4. I appreciate the input.

I wouldn't think that the USNA would deviate from the scores of the government. I don't think it will go lower than 640, but I am questioning on whether it is higher than the NAVY at the USNA.

My guess is that it is the same for USNA as for NROTC. For comparison, My DDs first ACT math score was a 29 and her RD said that was converted to a 690.

Have you tried asking your RD at the Academy? Also, why is it important to know the conversion? The ACT and SAT are two very different tests and IMHO to convert one score to the other is inaccurate and I'm almost certain Admissions does not convert the score, but rather each test score value has a corresponding score value that goes towards your WCS. There is also evidence that people typically do better on one over the other. I can support this from experience because I did much better on the SAT. If you are trying to find a conversion for comparison/ competitiveness purposes, then look at Class of 2018 class profile. Look at the top score for ACT(or SAT if you prefer) and shoot for that and above.

Iwanttobeanofficer2019, I am confused. You joined Sunday and have posted 28 times since then with several inconsistencies from your original post.

In your initial post you said you are top 10% of your class and recently that has been upgraded to top 5%.
In your initial post you said you had an ACT/SAT equivalent of 1300 and recently that has been downgraded to a 1220-1260.
In your initial post you claimed to have a nomination from your congressman and later posted that you would be notified in TX later this month.
Your initial post states that you had a BGO Interview that went well, passed your DODMERB, but had not taken the CFA.

I'm not looking to badger you, just think you'll get more use and assistance from this board if you are honest, consistent, and are really seeking help and not just waiting to hear what you want to hear.

The CFA is a biggie. Have you been preparing? You were concerned about only being able to do 2 pull-up. There was great advice offered from several posters on how to improve on that. How is that going?

You were also given advice regarding the lack of team sports. The USNA Class of 2018 had 90% Varsity Athletes. Perhaps you can join track this spring? Try javelin, discus, shot put, etc...?

Folks here are extremely positive and encouraging. People will tell you the only way to surely not get in is to not apply. There seems to be a bit of fuzziness as to your standardized test scores, but they seem at best on the low end of the middle 50th percentile.

Look for and promote a compelling reason for the USNA to admit you. You said you are from a "minority school". What exactly does that mean? Can you use that to your advantage? You said that you are part White, Native American and Middle Eastern. That seems pretty unique to me. Your JROTC commitment and success is also to be commended.

IMO, unless you're looking to retake the ACT/SAT your past scores and their conversions are not particularly useful to furthering your cause.

I hope you kick butt on the CFA and I look forward to hearing the outcome of your application process.

USCGA_2018 I have been truthfull in everything I have said and as is stated by my JROTC Cadet Creed "I do not lie, cheat, or steal, and I will always be accountable for my actions and deeds". I was told by a usna rep. that they did the reading and math for ACT score, but they don't which is why I lowered my scores to the 1220-1260 since they will take my best sat reading and ACT math score instead in my case. I'm simply guesstimating on what the NROTC gave me as a superscore, so like I said, I don't think the USNA will change their score conversion compared to the NAVY. I'm leaving room in my guess for what it could be and based on what falconchicc 88 said it could be higher than what I speculated. Second, I got a New gpa and rank this semster since the New semester for my school started on Monday which is why it increased from the rounded top 10% that I used to just be general instead of stating the 5%. It was arbitrary to say the least, but it is all fact. The Average sat scores at USNA are a 1270-1280, so I think I'll barely below par for the middle average. Third, I have been notified that I would receive the nomination in october, but they haven't told me officially and haven't submitted it to the USNA. I have an official JROTC nomination as well that was just sent off.

MiddyB, my BGO said that they do 'super superscore', so I will take his word. I'm not undermining your attempt at helping, so I thank you for your thoughts on my topic.

Thank you for your concern USCGA_2018, I have increased my pullups by 1 this week with rigorous training. I'm sore to say the least, haha. My lack of sports is something I can't fix, so I have to only hope that my physically demanding and arduous JROTC program will be sufficient enough to make up for that like it was for my friend. As for the minority school aspect, I am attending a 90% hispanic school in a poor district. My ethnicity is indeed white, native American, and middle eastern. I talked to the USAFA, and they said that it could help me since they wish to diversify their School. I think the usna will follow suit.

Finally, I plan to "kick butt" on the cfa. Hooyah! I will let you know how It turns out.

Thank you for all of your advice and comments.

Sorry for the delay in my responding to your pm. TV4caster gave you a link to a concordance table, and it looks valid and familiar to me. To be honest, USNA is looking at class rank more than GPA, as GPA algorithms are all over the ballpark to the extent that they are almost useless for comparison purposes. As you probably know, the roots of the service academies were based on STEM, so they tend to put primary focus on the math scores from either the SAT or ACT. As you seemed to suspect, your GPA probably ranks on the lower side of A. I think your concern with the CFA is well-founded, and at this stage it would be good to focus on improving your performance on the pull-ups so you can get past the CFA in good form by the deadline. Best wishes to you.

USNA does convert the scores to an SAT equivalent score. When DD met with her her Admissions Counselor she (the counselor) had no idea if DD''s scores were from her ACT or SAT. She stated they convert them and then take the highest in each category rather it be ACT or SAT, so in effect they "Superduper" Score. DD is my third to go thru this process, and this was the first I had heard this. Until this meeting we, like you, were under the impression that they simply took the best of either the SAT or ACT, but didn't combine them. My current MID confirmed this and stated she can look on her personal data in USNA's system and it shows her ACT scores as converted to SAT equivalent scores.

Hmm..interesting! I did not know that! Thank you. To my understanding that is not common knowledge among applicants and so they should advertise that perhaps.

I just checked my DD's USNA portal and it does not have the ACT converted to SAT.

The answer is 680 for a 28 math ACT. USNA keeps record of both SAT and ACT, but I believe when doing WPM calculations (which you don't really need to worry about) and when viewed by the Admissions Board, they use the converted score.
