Hey guys. I am trying to get into a SA and my back up route is going for a ROTC scholarship. I live in VA and am very interested in VMI. Was wondering if anyone has received a scholarship to VMI for ROTC and wouldn't mind possibly posting some of their "stats" of academics and/or physical test. Thanks!

Hey, I have received the AROTC ad Marines scholarship to VMI. Here are my stats:
Un-weighted GPA: 3.8
Weighted GPA: 4.7
8 honor classes, 8 AP classes
SAT and ACT scores (CR+M combination) :1500
Girl Scouts Gold Award
Leadership: Principal's Advisory Council, MUN secretariat, JSA secretary, Chinese honor society secretary
Extra-curricular: 4 year varsity swimmer (with school and league records), NHS, Science HS, Chinese HS, Mu Alpha Theta, Junior counselor, hospital volunteer.
PFT for Army:
push ups: 45
sit ups: 54
Mile: 6:01
I can't remember my Marines PFT, but it wasn't very good.
Good Luck and hope this helps!

Let me know if you guys have any questions. I'm a current Rat at VMI and contracted/4 year Army scholarship. Jarhead1775 on here is one of my Brother Rats and we're here to help!

What were some of your stats toget the scholarship? Like GPA class rank extracurriculars etc. Also do you have any advice on improving chances of getting scholarship.

I've been accepted to VMI and am hoping for a NROTC (navy option) scholarship, however if i do not receive the scholarship I am heavily interested in being a college program Marine option participant

Thanks, and no I do not attend Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, I'm from SoCal :)

I'm all for the Marines, but why does one course take you to Navy Option and the other to Marine Option? What difference does having the scholarship make?

When I was deciding between the different ROTC programs and SAs to apply to, my two main services of interest were the Army, and the Naval service in general. I decided to pursue the Navy over the Army because I decided that I wanted a career as an aviator (either as a pilot or a flight officer, i would be proud to serve as either) and that I believed that Naval Aviation would be better (I am not knocking on Army aviation by an means, just an opinion). Thus I decided to pursue an appointment to the United States Naval Academy and for an NROTC Navy Option Scholarship. Since then I began thinking about the what I would want to do if I was unable to secure my first choice of aviation and was drafted into another service selection (I am not knocking any of the non aviation fields, I just want to be involved in aviation more than anything else), I know I would not want to be involved in surface warfare or submarines. Through the Marine Corps I would still be able to pursue a career as a Naval Aviator or Flight Officer, however if I failed to achieve that, I would be much more apt to be involved in the career opportunities that Marine ground has as opposed to surface warfare. Now through the Academy I could apply for either branches aviation slots, so if I was fortunate enough to be appointed to the academy either this year or the next, service selection would be less of an issue. With the way they separate NROTC, I would not have that luxury. So I decided that if I received the Navy option scholarship (which I had already finished applying for :( ), it would be hard for me to put my parents through financial burden when I didn't have to, however I would apply for the NROTC Marine Scholarship once there and attempt to switch from their. If I do not receive the scholarship then I would enter the Marine Option program right away and apply for a 3.5 year or less scholarship. HOWEVER, I am not seeking this path simply because of financial benefit, if I never received a scholarship of any kind I would still continue all four years as a college program participant. It would just be nice if i could use the scholarship as a sort of gift to my parents. I hope that answers your question.

Sorry for this being so wordy.

Now that's an answer that makes sense and was clearly thought through. Well done and thank you for satisfying my curiosity. And no, it wasn't too wordy.

DS has his conditional appointment to VMI. We are waiting on 3rd board AROTC.

His unweighted GPA is 3.4 and weighted is 3.99
All AP / Honors classes
He scored the full amount available on the front page of his interview sheet.
28 on ACT.
Don't remember his PFT results, because his did that and CFA close together and all the numbers are jumbled in my head. I know he didn't do great on the run 7:12 but had to take some time from running due to bronchitis not long before the test so he is getting that time back down. He can do 12 pull ups.
He is the Drill Team Commander of his school Drill Team and 2nd in command of the entire JROTC, I believe the Executive Officer.

Any thoughts on his chances of a 4 year? 3 year? VMI is his school of choice. Engineering major.

I had similar stats to your son except my school didn't JROTC and I had a 3.86 gpa unweighted. I also did tennis im assuming drill is considered a sport? I listed accounting as my major. I got a 3-year AD AROTC to Norwich which is a SMC like VMI.

I think he's a strong candidate for a 3 or 4 year AROTC scholarship.

Thank you. They did consider his Drill as a sport because he practices 4 days a week ( Drill and Color Guard) and competes for his team in competitions.

I also looked up his SAT which was 1200.

Awesome! And his JROTC will look really good for leadership. I had a lot of leadership stuf,f and I think that's what really helped. I had a 28 ACT too. A 1200 SAT is competitive for the scholarship.
