Is the CFA a pass/ fail thing or a points think like the PFT for the ROTC scholarship? Does not performing give you a zero chance of appointment or is it part of the "total package" ?

If you are in decent shape you can pass they may ask you to redo it if you score low in any specific area. You really should have spent months preparing for it as 10% of your files 'worth' is a pretty big deal and if you don't pass you will not be qualified and they may not allow you to do a re test. This is very late to be doing your CFA if you have not done it for the class of 2019, most have had it done months ago.

In a sense yes, it is pass/fail. There are detailed instructions on the usma.edu website along with averages and maximums for each event. You should aim for the maximum scores, but get at least the average scores. Even then, average scores may not make you as competitive as other candidates. For WP the basketball throw is one of the more important events, and it is usually the one that candidates have a problem with. There is a sticky above called "Oh No - The Basketball Throw," and there are multiple videos on YouTube that show the correct technique. If your score is not high enough and you are a highly competitive candidate, admissions MAY ask you to retake the test, but that's not guaranteed so it's best to train and submit your best possible scores.

You must pass each event. If you fail one, you fail the whole CFA.

"If not performing" as to not take one - no chance of an appointment.

If you don't pass, in theory you could get a waiver and still get an appointment.
