Hi,

So, this is a different form of the common 'what % of applicants were appointed with 3X Qual and nomination.'

I was told that the area we live in has the highest appointment rate in the state due to the # of applicants. Where does one find this information? Is this information listed anywhere and you just have to find it? I was told that from our area, the appointment rate is actually over 85% for those who meet qualifications and have 1 Nom. For those with 2 it is 'even higher.' But what is 'higher'? 86%? haha.

*Disclaimer: I know that past numbers are no guarantee of future rates (just like the financial industry), but there is a certain consistency to the numbers barring some remarkable event.*

Great question! I would also love to know where to find out how competitive each district is as far as appointments go.
 
I can't answer your question, but one clarification for others who may read your post. Your rhetorical question of what percentage of applicants were appointed were 3X qualified and nomination.... Is 100%. You CANT receive and appointment under ANY circumstance without being 3X qualified and having a nomination. So that answer is easy. ALL candidate who receive an appointment are 3X qualified and have a nomination...... But not all 3X qualified candidates who have a nomination will receive an appointment.
 
CC is 100% correct in his answer to your question. Semantics and the way questions are asked have meaning and what you asked was answered.
CC is one of the most knowledgeable posters on this forum regarding this whole process. You might show him a little deference in your response. Is this were I type "haha"? Never understood that part of any message.

Contact admissions to see if they can provide you any hisorical data regarding 3Q, nominated, and appointed statistics. They might be able to tell yoou.
 
The truth is, that all of the academies appoint whomever they want. Some with great numbers, some with less. Whatever fits their needs and falls within the allowable criteria. Some 3Q'ed 4.0 get in, some don't. Some 3Qed 3.5's get in, most don't. Just do you best and you'll find out.
 
The question may have been worded poorly but not so much that it was difficult to understand what was actually being asked.

The question was not "What % of appointments had 3Q and a nomination?", this is obviously 100% as CC pointed out. The question was "What % of applicants who are 3Q and have a nomination end up receiving an appointment?"

I'm not sure if these kind of stats are available.

Regardless, admonishing an anonymous poster probably won't get anyone very far. . .
 
So here is another question. My DS did not get MOC nom for AFA but is from highly competitive district. I thought he was done with AFA. His ALO says he is still not completely done and if he has an exceptional package the AFA will find him a nom from an underrepresented district. Has any ALO on here ever had a candidate not get a nom from their district but from another district and get appointment? DS has appointment to NA so I assume his package is competitive.
 
I know you can get a nomination from a different district's representative for applying to the merchant marine academy. But I don't believe that is possible for army, navy, and Air Force academies. I defer to Steve (flieger) to correct me if I'm mistaken. Things do change over the years. Mike.
 
This is my understanding too, however, if USAFA wants you, they will look at your district's slate and your senator's slates and if there is anyone that has been DQd or removed from the slate for any reason, they can request the nominating source put you on that slate in their place. But from what I was told, it must be one of your DS's reps, it can't be a rep from some random unrepresented district/state. They can also use the VP Nom on your DS if they really want him, assuming he has applied for that nom.
 
Determining 3Q isn't difficult. 1) Did you pass your medical physical? If you didn't, you'd know. It would say disqualified on your online application. 2) Did you pass your CFT? If you didn't, it would say on your application that you are disqualified. 3) Do you ACT/SAT and GPA meet the minimum standards? If they aren't, you'd know. On your application it will say below standards or your scores will have brackets around them.

Basically; look at your online application. Does it say if you meet the standards or does it say something is deficient? If you aren't 100% sure of what I'm saying, simply call your ALO and ask. They can look at your application and within 3 seconds can tell if you are qualified or not. best of luck. Mike.
 
Mike, I looked at portal all is ok. D has been 3Q'd by USMA with an LOE. But USAFA deferred her to March. Question is it "Safe" to assume she is also 3Q'd by USAFA?

Because she was deferred; that implies she was on the EA and finished her application 100% by 1 November. Had she NOT been qualified, they almost surely would not have "Deferred" her to March, but rather would have disqualified her. So, to answer your question, I would say it's safe to say she is 3Q qualified. But again; if she passed her medical physical; was not notified by the academy to retake her CFA; and you know her grades are good with ACT scores above 25, then there's nothing to worry about. Again; then would have said something different than "Deferred" had she not been qualified. Mike
 
Mike, One more question, if I may...looking at the USAFA quick fact sheet http://www.usafa.af.mil/information/factsheets/factsheet.asp?id=21371 it shows 9706 applicants, 2,277 Qualified and 1190 Appointed. I am guessing this means D is one of the (2,277) qualified I know this is for 2014 but stay with me. So her chances are close to 50% to gain an appointment. Or a 50/50 chance. I hope this is right. Again I know there are no guarantees. Just a nerve racking time, waiting, waiting, waiting. Thanks again for all of your insight and help.

You're math is correct. You might try getting this off your mind by focusing on backup plans. If they're all complete, go on a vacation! :)
 
So our DS was finished with his EA app, been deferred to March and got a nom to USNA but not USAFA...but i did see a falcon on the fence outside the window....I NEED a vacation.
