When will they say "no"?

When will those who were not selected typically begin hearing that they were not chosen?
 
From what I understand, if you don't have a "no" by now, you are still in the running! As many have said on here, better nothing, than a NO. Good luck to you.
 
Thanks, SNF6! And for sure I would rather wait in order to hear a yes than have a no now. My main concern is, if I get an e-mail that says "you have a message from USAFA admissions", I would get super excited. If I logged on and got notice that I have NOT been appointed, that would be a huge bummer. So I guess my question is, are they sending out notices of non-selection at this point yet? (I'm also wondering if any EA candidates got a "no" or if it was all deferrals and appointments)
 
Be advised that even if one receives an initial rejection notification, up until I-Day, there have been cases where appointments have been granted for one reason or another.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but it would be helpful, for those who do not have access to the USAFA application portal, for an answer to be posted (if known) instead of a reference to a document. Even a brief synopsis--really, a sentence or two--would be oh so appreciated. TIA.
 
My son got his notice through his portal at 4 am last March 20th so be patient! They do take their time and there is no rhyme or reason to the process - you will go crazy if you try to find one! My son had to accept other offers to hold slots at two other universities in the interim as did many others who were accepted late - I found myself exasperated and my son had a very heavy academic load so we finally decided to be hopeful but just stopped worrying about it and went on with the other acceptances just in case - it was just too important to place all our hopes in one place so we had plan B and C and we still have a back up plan! Things happen - best to be prepared. That said - best of luck and don't be surprised if very early one morning your DS or DD - son or daughter did like mine and suddenly started running back and forth jumping up and down yelling like he was on fire - "Igot it, Igot it!"

My son, also CAP did the EA and was deferred and did not get acceptance until March 20th last year so hang in there - Lots of CAP cadets at the academy!

I think everyone is trying to be as helpful as possible - the real answer is no one really knows the way of USAFA admissions - we all had to play the waiting game and some of us til the very last minute conceivably possible! If you are referred to a document in applicant instructions by someone in the know they are giving you valuable insight! This is not the end to endless questions if your hopeful gets in - you will be asking a lot more unanswerable questions throughout basic and the first semester. But there are parent fb forums for that and it gets very interesting as you go and learn how much you cannot possibly know about the mysterious ways of the academy! Good luck and patience to you. If your hopeful gets in turn to parents of upper classes - they will be your most valuable resources.
 
I know a cadet who first received a rejection letter, but towards the end of May, Admissions reconsidered and appointed the applicant. As clearblueskyys mentioned, Admissions has their own method to picking and choosing, so all we can do now is remain hopeful, but also keep doing well where we currently are.

Not sure if this where to ask this question, I've seen it posted before, but never saw the answer...will people continue to get appointed over the next few months as well? Obviously the majority will be in March/April, since the appointed ones have until then to yay/nay, but was wondering if there would be continued "rolling" (lack of a better word) admissions. Thanks so much!
 
People have gotten accepted up til a week before basic training started in June. Remember what I've said in the past. The academies aren't everyone's first choice for college. Maybe everyone on this forum it's their first choice, but of the 10,000-12,000 initial applicants, I'd say that half or more don't have the academy as their first choice. As such, not everyone who receives an appointment will say yes. I can't speak for the last couple years, because the process is changing a lot, but only a couple years ago, it was not uncommon for the academy to offer between 1500-1700 appointments. Knowing that 500-600 would turn it down. This left them with between 1150-1300, where they wanted to be. Yes, 500 people have turned it down. As such, they can offer appointments up til June to cover slots that were turned down.

As for when you'll know, there is not cut off date. And yes, it can get crazy. In the last couple years, I had one cadet who got the rejection letter. Sorry, try again next year. A week later, he received a letter offering a prep school slot. He asked for my honest opinion on whether to accept it or not. I recommended that he not take the prep school offer. (I thought his application was too good for the prep school, plus he already got accepted to a very, very prestigious east coast school with a full ride private scholarship). So I felt he should turn down the prep school. Our senator felt the same way, and even called the academy to ask what the hell were they thinking. 2 days later, he was offered an appointment. He did accept the appointment. So, you never know what can happen. Truth be told, I think the prep school offer was an administrative error. But had he not received the appointment, he would have turned the prep school down and taken the prestigious university offer.mnot saying I'm recommending that to anyone here. Every applicant is different and their options are unique.
 
Thanks so much...my son keeps doubting himself and then acts like he doesn't want to go. However, the other day when asking what his other friends are doing after high school, it was mixed. He said "I guess I'm the only one that knows what I've wanted to do since birth". Soooo...we all know he wants to go to USAFA! Good luck to everyone...we will know "soon" enough!
 
If deferred, do transcripts need to be sent, or can the update be via email to the Admissions officer, along with the updates on awards/activities?

I was just wondering the same thing. As far as I know, my son has not been asked for seventh semester transcripts. But I am not sure what we are supposed to do.
 
The deferral letter says to update accomplishments, new grades, etc. I am thinking that means transcripts, but would rather just suggest he send an email with everything noted.
 
Yeah I haven't been asked for seventh semester transcripts either...figured I'd ask my counselor to send it to them just in case. It can't hurt.

This example makes me feel we should "check up" on our DS application as to why (if he doesn't in the future) receive an appointment. Could it be a mistake? He was told by both senators and his Rep. that he is one of the best candidates they have seen. (no principal noms, just one competitive and one Senator alternate) We believe he should get appointed too, but nothing is guaranteed. His ALO has pretty much been off the radar since day one. (ALO says he has over 200+ students). Maybe I'm just being impatient, (OK not maybe) but reading the Appointed class of 2019 thread, is definitely turning up the anxiety levels.
