At the end if jr. year usually the cadets go to summer training. Last year it was called LDAC but I heard they were changing it to something like CLC. My question is what is known about the new training program over the summer (length, activities, etc) and when we will know what dates we have to go because I wanted to do summer classes or an internship.

thanks!

If you are a current cadet then the best source of information will be your cadre. Not much has been published about CLC and the training included. I do not believe the dates have been published for this summer as of yet.

If you are not yet a cadet then it's a bit early to start thinking about CLC, mainly because it is a new training program this year and there could be many changes before your scheduled to attend.

I am a MSIII cadet but my cadre seem to be clueless about the upcoming summer.

The dates have been posted. Ask your cadre. It's 30 days at Fort Knox. hooah.

Thanks for the update, if you have a copy of the dates for CLC and your allowed, could you post them.

Come on.....Ft. Knox in the summer is just lovely.

Take this with a grain of salt. CC likes to make changes! These were the dates sent to me by the MSIII instructor in my BN.

CLC Regimental Dates:
1st Regiment: 3 Jun - 3 July
2nd Regiment: 7 Jun - 8 July
3rd Regiment: 11 Jun – 12 July
4th Regiment: 15 Jun – 16 July
5th Regiment: 19 Jun – 20 July
6th Regiment: 23 Jun – 24 July
7th Regiment: 27 Jun – 28 July
8th Regiment: 5 Jul – 5 Aug
9th Regiment: 9 Jul – 9 Aug
10th Regiment: 13 Jul – 13 Aug

The weather at Ft Knox during the summer makes it even a more miserable place than it already is the rest of the year. My best experience was at the PGA shop in the airport, but only because I never had time to make it over to Churchill Downs. Oh, and the Chinese restaurant on Ft Knox is pretty good too, but the cadets probably won't get to experience that.

Knox was annoying, but not all that bad. Plus at LDAC last year, heat casualties were a HUGE issue (leading to the whole summer being a disaster), so I'd venture to say that you'll sleep inside almost every night and training outdoors won't be too bad. I'm not sure how that's going to prepare us to be LT's where no one gives a damn if you're hot or not, but hey. Makes for some easy summer training.

I'm not sureif CTLT will still be around, but try to get a slot. One of the best experiences I've had in college and my favorite ROTC experience.

Okay, I'm feeling a little "uneducated" here, but how does one find out which battalions are in which regiments??

Dates are those listed above, but like they said, they will most likely change several times before actual dates are posted.

The word is less focus on tactics/patrolling/etc., more focus on "adaptive leadership". They've also added an MSIII exam, which will test cadets over material they learned at their battalion, and a couple standardized tests. Seems they are focusing more on the classroom than in the past. The new commander is changing things and this is going to be the first round of it, so prepare to be flexible and just go with the flow. It's also Pass/Fail now rather than actually being assessed (so no more earning the elusive E at camp).

Also, Fort Knox is ungodly hot. I was there this past summer and they wouldn't even let PT because they were afraid of heat casualties. The LDAC cadets last year all received a 300 on their PT due to the heat, and they will no longer be administering a record PT test at camp.

It doesn't really work like that. They do not send an entire Battalion to one Regiment. The cadets from one battalion will all go at different times and will be in different Regiments. It does happen that a couple cadets from the same Battalion will be in the same Regiment, but they don't send them as a group all at once.

The cadets will be able to request when they would like to go, but if it's anything like when my sons went, none of them really got the time frame they wanted unless it was worked around another summer training session.

Great advice.

No more Recondo or Top 5 that included extra OML points either.

If I make it a family vacation when DS goes down next summer, what would be some highlights? ;)

Leaving Ft Knox.

On a serious note, Louisville is close by and many people visit Churchill Downs or the Louisville Slugger factory, or if you're there at the right time and like golf, the PGA has a tournament at Valhalla every summer. Right outside the gates of Ft Knox or in E-town is really nothing too special or exciting. Some enjoy a few of the local German restaurants.

Edit: if you meant highlights of the training, my bad. Honestly probably nothing about the course other than graduation.

Take an hours trip south and go to Mammoth Cave. And while in the area visit the corvette museum in Bowling Green.
Around Fort Knox not much to see. Several years ago they had the Patton Tank Museum there but it's been moved.

Ok, gotcha, thanks! Sounds like he likely won't get the time slot he requests, which is a bummer as he is relying on his summer employment for tuition, and he would not take such a big income hit if he could go early and be done. I am sure a lot of other cadets are in the same boat, though. Well, at this point we will just have to wait and see how everything works out.

Thanks! There is a graduation ceremony? Might make this a great camping trip and time it right.

Yes, I believe they've added a family day as well the day before graduation. What all cadets are able to do those days I'm not completely sure, but there is a bowling alley on post so that's something to do. I can't remember if there was also a movie theater.

If you're in the area for a trip already, the graduation would be nice to see for parents. It's not something I would dedicate an entire family trip around (for other curious parents reading the thread), but if you're close by some parents have enjoyed it.

Thanks. His brother adores him. Even answered a religious education question about saving someone by calling in the SEALS. Yes. He did. Did not get credit or full credit other than proper details and grammar.
