How many applicants are usually invited for a CWV? My son received one this week. Does it impact summer seminar chances?

From what I've heard, the two programs are decided separately and one will not affect the other.

I was invited to CVW way before I ever applied to Summer Seminar. I went to CVW in the fall and was accepted to Summer Seminar this past week. I don't believe that one helps the other though.

Thanks for the info. How did USNA have your info to invite you to a CWV fighterpilot? Congrats on summer seminar! We are still waiting on that. Where do you live, if you don't mind the question.

Well... I'm not 100% sure which source my information came from as far as CVW invitation, so I'll just give you my "USNA Experiences Record." :) I attended STEM as a rising Sophomore and applied to attend as a rising Junior. I didn't get accepted into the latter. My sophomore year, I also signed up for the USNA mailing list, so that my information would be in their database as early as possible. (http://www.usna.edu/Admissions/Contact-Admissions-by-Email.php "Request Information" button) Then, in about September of my Junior year I got the random CVW invitation!

I have a few other friends from different states that also got invited at the same time. Some attended a STEM at some point and some never got accepted but were invited to CVW still.

In conclusion, I think that as long as you get your information into their system and are somewhat appealing, you'll get your CVW invitation!

I also don't think that CVW will help OR hurt your son's chances. It was a great experience, but the plebes guaranteed that they did no post-drag report. Instead, that drags just come-and-go.

CVW and NASS are separate selection processes. Each has extremely low impact (in the grand scheme of things) to offer of appointment. There have been plenty that have received a CVW invite that didn't get appointments. It's generally a good sign, but in no way predicts offer of appointment. Having said all that, participate in a CVW if you can afford it.

DS is at CVW right now - it was fun to see that the lieutenant who checked him in was his admissions counselor :) I was surprised at how many candidates were attending.

I got a CVW last year, but was not accepted to NASS. I don't think it necessarily is one or other you get, that's just what happened to me.
