My DS still WAITING for a BFE. Is this a normal waiting time or is it starting to look like he will not be getting one?

According to my admissions officer most notifications go out in February and March, so there is still plenty of time

HAHA! Don't get too antsy yet. It's only February. Last year I had to wait til mid-April. Just be patient and you'll know when you know.

Relaaaxxxx. I didn't receive my BFE until I checked the mail after shoveling from one of our infamous Rhode Island blizzards in APRIL. Waiting is a pain but there's no changing it.

My son received word from our MOC 2 weeks ago that he was admitted to the NA and that his LOA would be mailed "next week". He also received a forwarded email from the NA (to our MOC's office) indicating the the LOA would be mailed on 2/12. Yet, still no BFE. Has anyone seen it take 2 weeks for a BFE to be received?

Yes 2 weeks for us from date of call from MOC until BFE arrived. Yes we worried that MOC made an error! No, it just takes that long! Hang in there!!

Remember the Academy has had some inclement weather also. USNA was shut down one day and had a delay. Also a holiday mixed in too. All this combined with the USPS also having delays moving mail along could slow things down a day or two. Also, this is the time of year they are doing large batches of BFEs so with slow mail and the influx of work, it leads to a long wait! Hang in there! Just think of it as good training for future waits... service assignment, ship selection, duty stations, selection for schools, etc!

Thanks VtMom and NavyHoops. Really appreciate the encouragement. I'm not going to lie -- there has been some worry that this is all a horrible, unintentional error! We'll wait it out and keep the faith that the BFE will come. Good luck to all candidates!

I may be reading this wrong... an LOA (Letter of assurance) is not a BFE. Almost as good, though. It will indicate that an appointment will be granted pending <insert whatever they're waiting for here>.

Thanks USAFAGrad. I think I'm being sloppy with my acronyms. What I meant to say is that my son was told by his MOC that a "Letter of Appointment" would be coming, and that it was supposed to be mailed about 2 weeks ago. Thereafter, my son was forwarded (by his MOC's office) an email that the MOC's office received from the office of nominations & appointments of USNA saying that "one of your nominees has received an appointment" and that a "fully qualified letter of appointment" would be mailed on 2/12/15. Unfortunately, it has not arrived. I am just wondering if there is a problem or if it really takes that long. Today is 11 calendar days post the day it was supposed to be mailed. I know we should probably just be patient and let the process play out, but I also wonder if my son should be politely asking for a status, and from whom?

I'm curious how "B" if the BFE? Is it a manila envelope? or regular sized and overstuffed? I'm pretty sure I know what a TWE looks like ;)

It's a manilla envelope, measuring 9 1/2"x 12 1/2" and it's about 1/4" thick (just measured DD's for you! ;)). It contains a hard back, Navy portfolio with appointment certificates inside. If your DD/DS attended NASS, the portfolio is exactly like the one they received there.

I would give it more time. DD had an LOA in October, nomination appeared on her portal on December 10, BFE didn't arrive until the 29th and it was dated the 17th. The admissions department is very busy this time of year with appointments, NASS and STEM, so it might even take longer.

If the MOC has already been notified, I would give it a little more time. They're not going to pull back the appointment. :) The weather has been terrible and I'm sure that the mail delivery has been affected. Besides, they tend to send these things out in bulk. They may have been waiting to get a good number of them to send before doing so.

DD's BFE was also supposed to go out on the 12th. I just figured it was taking so long because we are in Idaho. She has had her offer for West Point for weeks and an LOA from them since early October. I know it's coming though. I remember my DS's took a long time also. Patience is not my best virtue however. :)

My DS just called his MOC and they said he will find out by 4/15. To make sure he has a plan b&c. Is this not a good sign???

That is the standard response from USNA. Sounds like the MOC is reiterating what USNA says. USNA tells candidates they will know by 4/15. But as we saw last year on this forum that is "most candidates." There were a few (although very rare) that were waiting even longer. It is not a good or bad sign. It is just what it is. As you can see from this thread alone, there are plenty still waiting. The majority of appointments are sent out from mid-January through March. February has been bad weather and might have impacted holding an admissions board last week, who knows. They have 1,000s of applications to go through. Remember until they have a TWE, they are still in the game! Hang in there!
