Please advise if this denial reason is the end of the line for DS. Do they not look at whole picture for the candidate? We had not even fully completed last piece of College Recommendation letter but application status changed today. DS did have MOC nomination and is at service academy prep school.

I'm not really sure what you're asking, but I believe the minimum SAT/ACT scores are grounded in the CFRs so there is no way around them without an act of congress, literally.

If you don't have the minimum SAT/ACT scores you can't get in. Is it denial or hold? The serious prep programs are aware of these SAT/ACT minimums and have prepsters take the test over and over again until they score high enough.

Yes, if his SAT scores are below the minimums (which are posted everywhere) then the admissions office would be breaking the law to appoint him...

I don't get it...Why even waste time on an application if the scores were below the minimums?

First ... The Executive Branch writes the CFRs. In the case of admissions to KP, its DOT and/or MARAD. They are Regulations (the R in CFR) not law, so "getting around them" may only take an act of the Executive Agency responsible.

Second ... the CFRs don't mention scores except to say the minimums will be established by the Superintendent for each class.

Phase six makes sense now.

Phase 6 – ...That Regimental Officer who drove you crazy since Indoc, where’s he lately. Oh yeah pulling hair out and studying for license. Those cool first class zombo’s all confident and laid back who you watched these past few months with envy, yep they’re pulling their hair out too – hey it’s only the rest of their lives they’re worried about.......

Ok, so after quite a panic... And I realize I wasn't clear before... DS scores are all above minimums, and were posted in portal accurately. Last week while scores were ABOVE minimums, portal still indicated they were below. Quick phone call to admissions helped clarify it was an inadvertent admin oversight that the "scores" check item hadn't been cleared yet. This was taken care of last week. So today when portal indicated "Denied Scores Low", knowing that the minimum scores were met, we wondered if there was another hurdle for the scores that DS hadn't cleared. A phone call to admissions (again) after some confusing conversation, clarified that this was an inadvertent/unexplainable error in the app review process. ?? Rest of the story was an apology for the mix up and the portal is back to "app on file". Still in the game...

And Jmoney457 - more info I have since posted to clarify may help you "get it". Weren't wasting time on app as DS scores were well above minimums, Admissions made an error which has been corrected. Not being an expert on the code, the question was attempting to ask a question whether there was another scores hurdle that needed to be passed, that maybe wasn't posted. It's probably clearer now. My advice is to not pull your hair out. I know its easy to get wound up and buy in to the stress with everyone else.

My first crack at license exams I pulled all-nighters, downed copious amounts of coffee and (over) analyzed each question. Result: failed 4 of 7 and had to retake all 7.
Second time around, I went to bed early, got a good nights sleep and downed a few other strong drinks. Result: passed all 7!
When upgrading a couple years ago, I followed the same method, good nights sleep and I didn't study between tests. Result: passed 12 of 15, passed 2 of 3 retakes after a two day break.

Moral of the story ... R-E-L-A-X, you got this.

And there are plenty of CFR questions on the exams.

Momof3gr&xys, so glad you were diligent in seeking clarification! Wow, would they have caught their mistake if you hadn't called? Hmmm..... Glad to know your DS is still in the game!!!

Yeah, when I sat at KP, my classmates were going wild, chasing ponies, cramming, staying up. . . . I sat in on a couple of cram sessions and realized that they were just trying to memorize the ponies. . . pointless, so I went to bed. Nailed it.

RE: Phase Six - please remember I wrote that post directed towards Plebes and Plebe Parents - not toward First Classmen - My guide for "how to get through first class year" would be much different in all respects and would indeed include getting sleep, and going through license prep deliberately an calmly but no doubt since by the time you are a first classman you are a full fledged kings Pointer would not necessarily be heeded at all.
