Who has been accepted already? I applied months ago and still haven't heard anything, was wondering who has heard anything

As a point of reference, the appointment thread on this site for the past few years has only grown to 85 - 115 for a given class year out of ~1,150 appointments offered (excluding ~250-275 from NAPs + Foundation each year). Using those stats on the 54 appointments for Class of 2019 as of the latest posting implies that something like 550 to 700 appointments have probably gone out at this stage or something like 50 to 60% of the non-NAPs and Foundation appointments to be offered (assuming ~1,150 appointments ex. NAPs + Foundation even though there have been indications that class size will be smaller this year). This is just a point of reference and should not be taken as fact, by any means......

Why do you believe the class size will be smaller this year?

Could it be that more people are aware of this site than in previous years. I think your numbers are probably off. I know our district has not had anyone appointed (according to the MOC's staff).
Please don't try to speculate and cause other heartache or undue stress!

I agree. 550 to 700 seems grossly inflated for this point in time. There's still more than 6 weeks for appointments to roll out

Also last year at this date there were 72 on the 2018 USNA Appointment thread today only 54 (to use your number) So one would guess that your speculation could possibly probably be WAAAAYYYYYY off base. Just thinking out loud.

The point is that this forum should not be used to determine how many appointments have been made, or how far they are along in the process. I do think they are behind given the bad weather that has had an effect on the northeast.

Based on our past experiences with the Academy, I suspect JShawshank is pretty bang-on although his percentage numbers may be a wee bit high for this point in time.

It is important to remember that while the Forums remain a very useful tool, there are still many candidates and families who either do not participate in and just stalk the Forum websites. In our state last year, only two appointments ever showed up on the Forums. We have two senators and eight representatives plus all the National Pool, etc, etc. that could have shown up on the Forums.

The Academies have been going through an admission number drawback for the last couple of years - Annapolis started this process later than some of the others.

There were a few references to this in posts during the fall. I'm not sure what 'smaller' means in terms of numbers which is why I didn't take that into account.

It is possible people are more aware than in past, sure. Note that the appointment list on this site peaked at 104 for class of 2018, 116 for class of 2017 and 87 for class of 2016. Many things could account for the numbers including changes in how admissions has paced giving out appointments. Just as an example, there were more like 75 appointments at this time last year for class of 2018....

I'm not trying to cause heartache or stress. I am one who likes to understand things through statistics so I my post was just for information to be taken or discarded as you choose. Again, not meant to stress you so I apologize if it did.

You could be right. As I said above, I'm just playing with numbers and implying based on past years. Remember that appointments have been going out since September and the admissions board has been meeting once/week for nearly 6 months (out of ~7.5 total months from Sept to April 15 deadline).

I think it is important to stress again that Admissions itself makes the final determination whether a candidate gets an appointment. The sole task of the Admissions Board is to determine whether any given candidate is qualified to be considered for an appointment.

Admissions makes that final determination from the list of qualified candidates - not the Admissions Board.

You nor I do not know what the numbers are so please don't speculate!

Sir, I would highly recommend that if you are curious about the number it may be wise to just think about it to yourself. YES!! I Am sure it is causing STRESS for the kids as well as their parents. But I am guessing you already have a child at the academy. So I would ask you to just have the courtesy and think before you write something that could be considered hurtful or stressful to there. I am sure you are just trying to help, but in this case I thin more harm that good has come from your post and would ask there moderator to shut down this thread before it becomes a problem.
Best of luck to all of the future leaders of our great nation!

I don't think anyone on this forum is trying to offend anyone; and JShawshank certainly did apologize if you found what he/she said offensive.

I think most folks on this forum view it as a source of hopefully objective information and perhaps a bit of distraction while they are going through the nomination/appointment bfe process.

This isn't OZ; and I think JShawshasnk's observation (which he/she qualified) was a reasonable attempt at objectivity based on past forum statistics.

There is really no need to shut the thread down since there really is no problem. JShawshank is merely trying to apply some statistics. Is that really causing STRESS for anyone? And if someone postulating on statistics on a forum causes you or a candidate stress, how will it be when they are on a submarine for 6 months or as a parent you know that their unit has been deployed to a hotspot?

I am not trying to be flippant about this since I know the waiting is not easy, but as someone who is way ahead in the timeline I can tell you that the wait for an appointment is nothing compared to what will come. Parents better get used to that idea and develop a system to deal with it.

Just what exactly was JShawshank trying to say with their original post?
Maybe they should have just said... have patience everyone is supposed to know by April 15th.
No instead they injected their subjective opinion on how many places are left without any information to base it upon except just pure speculation.
But oh well I suspect you and all of the others on this board must be much better at this than any of us who are new.
I thought this board was to help support and answer questions not what it has become.I will now sign off as my kids has an appointment and will be ok. I wish Kurt, Hopeful and Zachary the best of luck.

@Zachary Stevens , my DS's app was complete on Aug 1, and he has not heard anything from USNA. He got an appt to USMA this week, so hopefully USNA will follow suite soon. Be positive! Until you get the TWE, you are still in the game!

Second your comment, Stealth_81.

I think JShawshank was trying to be as objective and helpful as possible by using statistical data from prior years and then qualifying it.

Our own experience from last year with only two appointments posted to this Forum from a state with two senators and eight representatives (not to even mention other avenues of appointment available to candidates from our state) certainly bears out JShawshank's general observation although I do this his numbers might be a little bit high for this phase of the process but certainly within the ballpark.

Sorry 'parent' feels the way they do; but I seriously doubt most on this Forum would agree with him/her - they are here for information, not a sympathetic pat on the back and an attaboy.

Thin skin won't get you very far in the military!

We are here to help and support. However, that doesn't mean offering only positive feedback, and only offering opinions or posts that you approve of.

I was not involved in this conversation until you suggested to the mods that we close the thread down because you didn't like it. That got me involved, and I responded to your request. Sorry that you didn't like the response. I wish you and your candidate well in the future.
