I am trying to decide my classes for my Senior Year, for science I must choose between Physics and AP Bio. I know that if they were both AP classes it would be a no brainer, Physics. But Physics is just a normal class, and AP Bio is AP. I might be able to take both, but the grade might suffer as I am so busy. Should I just focus on one and which one? I kn0w that Physics is much more important to the academy, but that AP classes look better and really prepare you for college classes. What should I do?

My guess is that you would be much better off with having a Physics background. Your guidance counselor can add a note with your transcript that AP Physics is not offered at your school. Physics and Chem are notorious "plebe killers" so you don't want to go in cold...

Having any physics will be more helpful at USNA than bio, unless you are planning to be a chem or oceanography major, in which case, bio would be useful. If you get an A in "regular" physics, it won't hurt that it isn't AP.

I am going for both, it is going to be hard work balancing it with other AP classes but I am just going to do it. I know it will pay off in the end.

You can do it!! My DD took AP Chem, Honors Anatomy and Physiology, and Physics all during her junior year!

Have you taken other AP classes? If so, I wouldn't take too many classes that your grades would suffer. There is that balance between taking the hardest classes that your school offers and taking classes that are applicable/ helpful to your future USNA education. That regular physics class will be more helpful to you in the future as it will be a good foundation for the physics you'll be taking at USNA.

CAmom2015 Yes ma'am I am taking all of the AP classes my school offers. Next year I will be taking AP Calc and AP Literature along with Physics and AP Bio. I have a 3.8 unweighted GPA, I know that I can handle it, and without AP classes my school isn't great at preparing people for college. Thank you very much for your input. It is so appreciated!

This question was asked at a parent session with admissions counselors and the answer was an unequivocal physics over biology.
