Evaluated but no decision

I finally broke down and called our Senator to ask what kind of a slate they submitted. I found out they had a principal nomination with the rest unranked.

They also told me lots of bonus information. In addition to the principal nominee, a couple other candidates have already been offered appointments.

They also said that my daughter had been deemed 3Q'd and "extremely competitive". Apparently she has also "already been evaluated" but that they did not know what the decision was.

I'm curious how they would know that a candidate was considered "extremely competitive" by the Academy, and if that changes the odds at all over just being 3Q'd and nominated? Can they see the WCS?

Finally, does being evaluated, but not getting any news (good or bad) mean anything?

I would suggest you go back and read your post on Acceptance you stated ...

Does it really matter if he is off? I think what he was trying to say is that there are plenty of spots left. Whether that is 400 or 800 doesn't really matter, especially since we don't know how many appointments are in the mail etc.

Does it really matter if "extremely competitive"? All are extremely competitive..

Can they see the WCS? I doubt it.

Means nothing to use your own quote from above. Plenty of spots left!

Thanks, but I don't see the link between my earlier answer and my current question, at all. My question has no relation to how many slots are left. It has to do with the process and if those facts mean anything.

Everyone is not extremely competitive. A significant number are not deemed academically qualified. Or, they might be qualified on the CFA but have low scores. They would not be extremely competitive.

I don't want to call back again and bother them.

Same answer as #1- I am asking about the process and not how many slots are left. IE- do people who are evaluated but do not receive decisions generally get bad news, good news, or is there no correlation?

There are plenty of "extremely competitive" candidates that get the TWE (QNS). Sometimes it's just a numbers game. If your DD gets the TWE and wishes to reapply, she can ask her BGO where she can improve. My DS received a TWE from USNA, but a BFE in the first wave from USMA -- same stats, same type of non-principal nomination. I don't know if he was lacking something for USNA, or if it was simply the numbers (with candidates in the area/state having something else USNA wanted). Never asked USNA as DS is now happily at USMA.

Being evaluated without decision could mean that your DD is now on the NWL and waiting for the mystical admissions office to decide on appointing her or not.
Or it could mean they don't know(and from what I've read here from many BGO's and some I suspect are in Admissions) they won't tell you.

If she's been 3Q'd then Admission Board has looked at her package as they make that call. She now has a WCS and goes over to Admissions office where they award appointments and could be competing with everyone else on that list, a list of candidates from your state or some other formula they use to round out the class.

Either way, an envelope will arrive and then you'll know.

Our DS is 3Q, same statements made about competitiveness etc.... and we just have to wait.

Best of luck to you and DD/

Just to clarify on a couple of points:

No one outside of Admissions and the Admissions Board has access to how qualified a candidate is - including a candidate's WCS score. Outside dashboards only show whether a candidate was deemed qualified by the Admissions Board. Remember there is a definite difference between the Admissions Board whose sole job is the front-end determination whether a candidate is qualified and who then passes that information on to Admissions which actually evaluates the possibility of whether individual qualified candidates are offered appointments. Your Senator's office has no idea whether a candidate was deemed "extremely competitive." I suspect that the comment from your Senator's office was just a bit of good P.R.

However, In general terms what they told you is correct in that the Admissions Board did apparently deem your candidate 3Q'ed and they are being currently evaluated by the Office of Admissions now that Admissions has received their fully qualified file from the Admissions Board. Your Senator's office will be notified if an Appointment offer is going to be tendered; and it is your Senator's prerogative whether to inform you of that or just let you receive the BFE without prior notification.

Where is your candidate in the process? It's hard to say. Many BFE's have already gone out; but there are at least a few hundred left to go. Things seem to be moving a wee bit slower this year in regard to BFE's going out - probably a bit related to weather but more likely related to added caution on the part of Admissions due to the "snafu" last year regarding the reduction of available slots and the resulting mass disruption from having to re-classify existing Appointments, waiting list, etc..

Remember that slotting downsizing is still going on this year; but I don't know to what degree.

Hope this helps clarify things a bit.

I would assume at this point that your candidate is at least in the National Pool and you will hear something by April 15 - Good Luck!

You mentioned this was a Sentor's slate. Not sure what state you are from, but I would imagine the large majority of senator slates have pretty top notch candidates. Does one of the BGO's on here know what MOC's have access to in terms of info? My guess is they can see if someone is qualified, but doubt they can see a WCS or more detailed info. The 'extremely competitive' comment I am guessing is probably opinion based. The principle Noms could possibly have other Noms too and who knows who they will eventually be charged to. More than likely with a principle it will be to that senator. If in fact, she is very competitive, she will go to the NWL. Obviously the better WCS she has the higher she will land on that list. Being evaluated and no result could or could not mean anything as mentioned in lots of threads lately. Best of luck, hope it all works out.

Either put on the waiting list or in the pile for a prep school program. The waiting game basically is being extended for further review.

I think you have something there. I know of 5 applicants over the last three years who were turned down by USNA yet accepted by West Point-6 now including your son. Yet I have not heard of anyone who was accepted at Navy being turned down by Army. Just an observation.

I believe the MOCs have their own information system off USNA Admissions, similar to the one for BGOs. HOWEVER, I have no clue what information is on there. This simply might aid USNA on submitting MOC "electronic" slates OR it could also provide more information on each candidate, such as board qualification, etc. This is simply speculation, but might explain the ease that some MOC offices have on finding out candidate information.

I've seen it. It shows the status of each nominee with some restrictions and a caveat that the information is not necessarily official.

Representative's and Senator's Academy Coordinators also get an e-mail notification - typically within two-three days - once an Appointment is officially granted.

It is up to the individual office to decide whether they want to pass that information on to the Appointee. Some do - Some don't. They typically have seven to ten days to do so before the BFE is mailed.

Those who have not already received TWEs (and some who have) are all "very competitive." At this point, it's a numbers game. As is the case every year, there are more great candidates than slots. As I posted in another thread, there are almost certainly more BFEs to go out. However, more of those waiting will receive TWEs than BFEs.
